I started doing my course about November last year time ( 2004 ). Since then I applied for a job working in technical support for a software company near me. I went to the interview with examples of the course that I am doing.

A few days later they called me back saying they would like me to go in to dicuss salary!

It turns out that they were very impressed by the cuorse and the fact that I am puting myself though it. It was one of the factors that made them offer me the job! Also since i'm doing the A+, N+ and MCSA, they will increase my wages after each one is completed as an incentive to study hard!

I have now been working there for just over a month and find the studying a great help to the hands on job! Definatley reccommended!!

Success Story:

To start with, I had 2 spine operations in 1997 which made me loose my job as a traffic manager in a lighting company, this was the job that you have always wanted. so when I excepted this I found that there was not a lot I could do, so I went down hill in health and in mind, and it is very hard to get out of this state. In 1999 we brought a computer with the money we had saved for a rainy day and found that I enjoyed the challenge of the PC, I then went to a car boot sale and brought an old box that didn't work for £2 and took it home and after a load of reading on the internet I fixed it and boy did it feel great. I then looked into getting a career in computers, which came up with a list of companys that train from home, Scheidegger being one of those, I decided to take on the A+ and N+, this has helped me get the confidence back that I lost in 97, which has made the future for me and my family a lot brighter than it would have been if I just crawled up in the corner. Thank you Scheidegger, all the best cc

Success Story:

I was teaching IT in a learndirect centre but really wanted to improve my technical skills so that I could seek alternative employment in the PC Maintenance field. I was already skilled in electronics so this wasn't going to be too big a hurdle for me.

I found Scheidegger on the Net and they offered 2 combined courses: the A+ and N+ which were ideal for me to equip myself with the knowledge of today's PC environment. I completed the A+ last year and also passed the exams at an accredited centre. I am currently studying the N+.

I have since gained new employment working for DELL and having the A+ really made me confident when I applied.

The full course contents were all there in all the study folders, it's just a matter of going at your own pace and you can't really fail at the end.

The Tutors
I'm writing to express my thanks for getting me through my course. I knew I would need to get a recognised qualification if I was going to make any real progress with my career but as you know, tried to do it on my own and at evening classes but it was hopeless. The turning point for me was signing up for the CIW course. I can't tell you what a difference it made, the learning materials were great with all the interactive CD's and online activities too but the biggest thing for me was the tutor support. Without that the course would have been a real struggle for me. Now though I have my certification and a new job. At last I feel I am able to make some real progress and I know I have you, the tutors, to thank. So, thank you!

At 16years I started working using a comtometer and progressed to using a computer, if you can remember they were different from todays computers. The two computers was two feet off the floor with very large cables, everythink was worked out into tens and took up the whole area of a very large office. I decided to learn the computer when my children had grown up and the only job avarible was cleaning. I have pass all my exams and decided on web design because when I purchase a new computer I received a digital camera, learnt photoshop and this is the next stage of development. My husband passed away seven years ago and the computer was my salvation, I really enjoy these courses. If all goes well I will go on and be professional.

CATCH THE DREAM

A Dreamer

I was a big dreamer. My dream was to be a great webdesigner. But as I started the course, the first part was a really informative flooded, yet a boring part. I didn't know what I was getting into. I thought I was learning for something very exciting.

The Progress

As time went by, I found that what I've learned so far could open my eyes much more about the real world of web design indeed. Then I realised, there are so much to learn about a web design. There are elements called infrastucture which you have to master yourself on the internet business.

You're Not Alone

There was a time that I got really frustated. I spent nearly two months working on my "JavaScript" homework. I then gave up. I submitted my homework with a note to the tutor that I had tried my best but to no success. A week later, surprisingly I got a reply from the tutor with all the answers and guidances. I gladly realised that I am not alone in this course. I may seem to be doing the course physically alone, but in fact I've got a whole team out there who can support me at anytime I need. I then keep in touch with them eversince regularlly, even on Saturday or Sunday! The tutors are very helpful.

Just Do It!

Have you heard of the commercial tag line from "NIKE"? JUST DO IT!

Keep going chapter by chapter consistently. I make every single day become a meaningful day, even only for 15 - 30 minutes. I am moving on.

Where Am I?

I haven't yet finished my study, but I am at the stage of a 7 year old boy who can read a simple book for 15 pages, and add, multiply, substract numbers up to 20. I start to get very excited. I know there's still much more to catch up, but I'm getting closer to a full understanding of what Professional Web Design is. It'll be no longer a dream, I'll try to catch the dream. So, "Just Do It!"

Success Story:

Dear friends,

I am a person having a motto "Knowledge Is Supreme".

Even though my story is very much of my personal problems, but I want you to understand the circumstance through which I am doing my course and the support that Scheidegger had provided me. I joined with Scheidegger last year for CIW Website Manager's studies and just after that, I was in great trouble. My wife was not well. We were new to this country(UK). I had to stop my work and take care of my wife. She was also not able to go to her work, financial problems and tension started to grab me. I wrote some letters to Scheidegger about discontinuing my course for which the reply was very supportive and gave me moral support to continue with my course. Now my wife is under medication and I am not able to go to work more than 20 hours a week as I need to take care of my her.

I take the opportunity of studying when my wife is keeping well, which happens for a very short period. I never miss the chance and send my TMA's and try to get through with good percentage. Whatever is the circumstance, I am studing because I see light of hope somewhere. A hope of overcoming every problems and my hard work will make me stand on top of everything. I ask every student's who have paid and not continuing their studies, please take the opportunity and finish your course. Knowledge can pay you at any time in your life and for those anyone who want's to join with Scheidegger, that you will be the part of a great family and Universe of Knowledge. I am 35 years old and am still studying. Age does not matter but our will power matters. Study, take the opportunity as I did and do something in your life as I am going to do after finishing this course. Pray for my wife.

Wishing Good luck to everyone

Success Story:

I'm a fifty three year old mother and grandmother who hasn't had any formal education for more years than I can remember. I was always too busy bringing up children, suporting husband in a military career, then working for the extra money that university education for children requires. I lost my job and contracted cancer all in the same week last October, after a period of adjustment I was faced with a long time off work, and the probability that no one would employ me again. So I decided to take a home course. I chose the Web Design course because I have a home computer and this would.....if I passed the course.......enable me to work from home. I'm not far into the course but marks amazed me and have encouraged me to go on with it. The help from the tutors (boy do they have patience with me) is exceptional, and I know I can continue and both enjoy the course work and pass the exams so come the end of the year I shall have my own web design company and work from home when I want to. No more wage slave. If I can do this so can anyone else, you just need the right motivation, help, and the will to set aside a certain number of hours in a day to study, take the phone off the hook and buckle down to it. You ca do it to!

Hi, My name is SW,40 years of age and for me the true success of this course was to start it in the first place.having been a Technophobe for a long time and not knowing the first thing about computers,I summoned up the courage to send my first E-mail(And for those of you in the same boat you know how scary that can be). I have just completed TMA03 with an 80% pass mark and although i am just at the start of this course I cannot explain the sheer euphoria at getting this far so quickly and learning so much(Even my typing has improved to 50 wpm) I have recommended this course to people that I know and would encourage anyone who is on this course to KEEP ON GOING and dont give up.Apart from taking my driving test 20 years ago,I believe this course to be the best financial investment I have made.... ever. The tutor team are the best, they have encouraged not only myself but others as well to carry on and realise our dreams of a better lifestyle, success, and financial stability in this, the largest industry on the planet(and growing daily)So,stop grappling with the gremlins and go on as you mean to.Thanks for looking. I am 62 years old and I left scjool with no qualifications at all. I Passed my RGN when I was 21. I left to have my children then I decided to go bsck to work again. I began writing peotry and stories and it was the tutor of one of these creative writing courses encouraged me to do my A level English Literature. I was six marks off an A level pass. Yes I was dissappointed but I had left school with no qualifications at all. I loved all things IT and decided to do the TROCN course, a basic IT skills course. I passed that with credits. I did a course on land issues in the voluntary sector. This wasn't an academis course but it proved that I could study and more importantly understand whar was being said to me. I loved studying, I had such a hunger for it was unbelivable. Last year I did an IT Essentials part one course and passed with flying colours. I decided to do this CIW Web Design course because that is what I am interested in. I am thinking of doing more courses. ! I was always afraid of failing exams but really the failure is not to even try to learn new things nomatter how old you are. My Grandchildren think I'm "mint" because I can help them fathom out IT problems and because I am a whizz kid at Lara Croft I can guide them through a level with out very little effort but with a great deaL OF enjoyment. So don't give yourself a hard time. No matter how old you are there is always som ething new to learn. Take heart from me and go out there find a course and learn a new skill. You are only as old as you feel. Regards to all you would be students

I don't know if this is a testimonial; or a success story.

I've been building PC's and doing small local repairs for a few years now but fancied a pop at the big money. The only way to do that is to train and get certified. Being unemployed for a while I had the time but haven't studied for a good few years. Anyhow to cut a long story short I slid into study mode quite easily and thoroughly enjoy it. Every set of results is a buzz for me. Well now to the success part. Word gets around about what people do in small villages and its common knowledge I train with Scheidegger. In my part of the world (Scotland) there is a shortage of PC techs, and even though I have not yet certified and am only nearing the end of my A+ section of my CISCO course. I've been offered a well paid job as a PC Technician. Not bad for someone who hasn't qualified yet. Yes I am capable and have been for years but through Scheidegger the proof of ability is there. I am looking forward to completing the course now with optimism.

There are jobs to be had. Study hard, enjoy every minute of it, then reap the rewards.

I embarked on my course (MCSA) in Nov 2005 at the age of 47. As a former Fish and Chip shop proprietor (My wife had become seriously ill and we had to sell the business) I was obviously worried about the future after all at my age you dont expect to have to go back to school . I have submited 12 assignments now and achieved some very good results, and with this in mind set about putting my aquired knowledge to the test. I approached a local IT company and Volunteered my services free of charge the company took full advantage of this as you would expect (something for nothing eh!) inside three days I had built three new systems and installed operating systems and other software on them, I also repaired several workstations, the machines are now in the hands of their owners and running fine. "feels good"

I've been bringing up children for the past 19 years. My youngest is now 5 and has just started school. I trained as a hairdresser, but once I purchased my first PC I was hooked!

I find this course a huge challenge, mainly because my schedule as a housewife and mother is very hectic, and I don't have a lot of spare time, particularly through the school holidays.

I was concerned at first about the amount of study I would have to put in, and I've had to learn how to learn all over again, but this course is probably the best money I will ever spend!

I may take a little longer to complete the course than someone with different circumstances, but the beauty of it is that I can do it in whatever spare time I do have, and the more I study, the more determined I become! Never, ever think you are 'past it' or too old to learn anything new...If I can do it, anyone can!

For many years i have been active on the Internet in the security sector, But did not have the relevant qualification to progress further , this is why i decided to take courser and achieve status in the real world of Network security and administration

i am currently joint administrator of one of the worlds acknowledged security forums , http://www.governmentsecurity.org forum , we have had in the past over 50,000 members reduced to currently approx 15,000 many are well known security professionals including Cisco instructors

i myself have wrote many articles and provided demonstrations of security issues ... including many released exploits to places like security-tracker , secunia etc.. under what use to be my nickname ComSec and now Kenny L ... yet i never had a single qualification in the IT field..yet many know me for what i have achieved all being self taught

i also have released many programs i have coded in Visual basic and Delphi , some have been system tools but most Network programs some examples can be found at one of my websites http://www.codelinx.net ... again i taught myself programming... and yet , if i was to apply to a company for a vacancy , i no for a fact i would stand no chance of obtaining the position due to my lack of qualifications

well now its time to change this and become a Certified professional , am currently studying for my CCNA and will also being following it up with others courses , i find the course work excellent and is a step in the right direction to progress further and gain a recognised certificate to improve my job prospects

i have given many members advice on securing the system and network all for free over the years...its about time i started to get paid it...and what better way than to gain a qualification ...am sure if i can do it..then many of you reading this can also... we all start at the bottom of the ladder... with each completed assignment ... is a step closer to the top

Kenny

I am 27 years old and in full time work. I have been repairing pc's for 6 years as a hobby but never held any qualifications. My girlfriend was pregnant and thought i wouldnt have the time to study for one. After speaking with a representative from Schneidegger who told me that if i wanted the qualification hard enough, i would find the time, so i decided to do it. Twelve months has now passed and I realised that its the best thing i ever did. I am now more confident about this subject and it has even resulted me in taking up visual basic programming, which i thought i'd never do. I've wasted so many years wanting to get into I.T but actually never doing anything about it. I hopefully will have my MCSA in another 12 months and will look to further my career by taking another course.

I have been studying in my spare time for this qualification at a time when I have gained a beautiful new daughter, (Molly) therefore my personal time is rarely easy to find while maintaining a happy family. I have also been more busy at work, year on year. Spending more hours working from home after leaving the office etc. My wife has gone back to work so our little Molly has to be run to and from the nursery so that's another part of the daily schedule that has been accomodated. My two real loves: guitar and snowboarding; have taken a far-away back seat to this training recently as I've turned a corner and really want to drive toward the finish line of the qualification. This means that the next time I get on the slopes I'll probably hurt myself and the next time I'm on stage (by stage I mean standing in front of my 1 year old playing baa baa black sheep) I'll embarrass myself.

On top of all the above reasons, I've gotten a 97% and 100% on my last 2 TMAs. I hope this all qualifies me enough to be put forward.

Cheers to you all for your sterling work with us lowly students - you've been a real help with my questions and concerns. Thanks!

My name is Paul Coates-Peregreen and I live in Kingston-Upon-Hull, which is a city in the county of Yorkshire, in the harsh north of England! There is high unemployment in this area which has subsequently led me to undertake the Website Design Manager course to enable me to have for the first time in my life(I am 27) a career. I live with my girlfriend of eight years and her daughter to whom I am her leading male role model. I alternate unfortunately between unemployment and really bad jobs, such as working in a turkey factory, roadsweeping etc. We cannot afford a computer let alone an internet connection so I have to travel once a week a few miles to my sisters house, where in exchange for babysitting detail I can use their computer and Internet connection. I have had limited experience with computers, yet am progressing very well on my TMA's, gaining marks of 90% or more since starting my course which I enjoy very much. I really cannot wait to complete my course, get the career that I've always wanted and improve the lifestyle of myself and my family. I am a multi-instrumentalist and one of the first things I'm going to do is create a website devoted to the great J.S Bach, who alongside the likes of The Beatles, Devo, Johnny Cash, De La Soul and Sergovia is a great influence on me.

I TOLD HIM I CAN TRY AND FIX IT FOR HIM, NATURALLY HE DIDN'T TRUST AND SAID I AM STILL LEARNING ABOUT COMPUTER, AND THAT I MIGHT DAMAGE IT. SO I PROMISED HIM THAT WHAT I WAS GOING TO DO WAS NOT GOING TO MAKE IT ANY WORSE, IF IT DID NOT IMPROVE IT. HE AGREED. WHEN I LOOK AT IT, HE HAD EVERYTHING STORED IN IT. I DID A DISC CLEANUP, DELITED TEMPORAL FILES, COPIED THE DOCUMENTS THAT HE SAID HE DID NOT USE OFTEN AND FINALLY I DEFRAGMENTED THE DISC, WHICH HE ADMITTED THAT HE HAS NEVER DONE SINCE, AND THIS WAS A THREE AND HALF YEARS OLD MACHINE. WHEN THAT WAS FINISHED HE WAS REALY PLEASED. AND I WAS VERY PLEASED MYSELF.

Ten months later I was made redundant - then another job, then redundant again. I am now a Security Officer working 72 hours a week on a shift pattern,I have to find the time to study when ever I can. I started this course due to ill health, earlier this year I was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to retire from work early(60).I have never been taught anything about computers, all I know is self learned.I read about the courses on offer with Skillstrain and decided to "give it a shot".With having very little to do with my time I have been able to study quite hard and my progress reports reflect this.My 1st TMA was marked at 80% and from there my results have improved to-96%,100%,90% and 95% respectively. These results have really given my ego a massive boost,I was on the verge of severe depression, but I now have a goal in life.I am determined to complete the course, not for financial gain, but to be able to say I DID IT.Believe me,it's not going to be easy,I appreciate that, but if I can keep achieving these sort of results,my time will not have been in vain.Thank you everybody at Skillstrain for guiding me in the right direction. In return I WILL SUCCEED.

Success Story:

It's funny, I never thought that I would be writing this, but here goes. I started the A+ course in 2004 and all though I Knew how to build a computer and load drivers, operating systems etc, I always felt that my over all knowledge was limited. The A+ course certainly filled in the missing parts.

I am 42 years old, work, have a wife and three children (one Who was born with a few disabilities) I constantly worried if I would get time to study and get my TMA's completed so that the course would be finished within the specified time.

Unfortunately the time spec given (14 months at the time) was easily enough to finish and I realised that I had created more pressure on myself reducing the enjoyment of the course material. Please don't make that mistake if anyone reads this as I realised later when I moved on to the N+ course that the more relaxed you are the easier it is to learn and recall facts.

Don't get me wrong each course is tough and the amount of material to remember is huge, but I have the material there, for revision when I need it (and oh how I do!!) along with the extra notes I made on areas where I felt I struggled.

I have always been one of those people who tries to understand things and work out solutions for myself, but I always knew that anything I couldn't get my head round would be simplified by consulting one of the tutors who was always there to help with a problem.

There where times that with working, family commitments aswell as some personel losses that I did indeed feel like giving up and throwing in the towel.

But then I realised I had gotten this far and the light was slowly appearing at the end of the tunnel. I had completed the A+ and N+ and at the time of writing I am half way through the MCSA course. I am enjoying this course the most as it has been a real eye opener to the inner workings of Windows 2000.

How do I feel in general and am I ready for the exams? In all honesty maybe, with some serious revision anything is possible.

Do I want to take the exams? A good question as my whole purpose for studying was to give me more knowledge in areas of computing where I always had a huge amount of questions but no answers.

There have been times that I have picked up an MCSA or Network guide in a book shop, the type where you study and then questions are asked at the end of each chapter, and the greatest single feeling and justification for studying is the fact that I can easily answer most of the questions asked in the book without actually reading the chapter.....cool!! (and all this with someone who has the worst memory of all time, lol)

I feel that like everythig in life there are ups and downs and this will always be the way. The course for me has been like this, but I have endured and will continue to the end and will know, regardless of taking exam's or finding a job within this field, I have bettered myself with knowledge and skills that have given me respect from my friends and family.

I have been studying now for 10 months, and feel I am struggling quite a lot to find the time to work through the units of the course, let alone practice writing code and all that extra stuff.

However, I think I am still doing quite well considering I am working part time, looking after my 3 children (the youngest of whom is normally pushing the keyboard shelf in while I am trying to study, to try and get my attention) and demanding husband, and trying to keep the house tidy and food on the table. I think this ability to multitask and work despite big distractions, and to type JavaScript while telling my daughter how to work the DVD player, will be valuable at some point!

And despite all this, I am getting more than 90% on most of my assignments, which surprises me every time, but is very gratifying and helps me to carry on.

Since starting my course at the beggining of the year, I have put togeter a Desktop computer from scratch for my mother who is 68 years old and has never used a computer before, I also set it up for her and I go round atleast once a week as she lives quite far from me, and I have been showing her how to use the internet, email and other programs like word and phot suits.

She has picked it up quite well as always get emails from her asking what this means and I got an email from such and such what do I need to do with it. I also receive alot of jokes from her so she is really enjoying it, she now keeps intouch with our relatives in Malta via MSN.

I am now starting with my uncle Joe who has just retired last month and has baught a computer, and is very empressed with my Mums abilaty so he wants me so help him.

I have really enjoyed helpping my mother and my Uncle and from doing this I know that if I can I would like to go down that road of showing older inexperianced person how to use a computer and show them not to be affraid of them and show them how it can change there lives for the better.

I was also able to help with an addressing problem on a particular network and help to subsequently successfully bring up that network with the minimum of downtime to that MOD user. Although I have only been on the A+ course since July of this year, I find my confidence has risen to a level I never thought possible. Although I have to set my course work around looking after my disabled 14 year old son, I find that this course fits in well around my other daily routine. The course has given me the confidence to tackle issues I otherwise would back away from. some of the subjects covered have and do give me some problems, but I find satisfaction in overcoming these issues. the one thing that inspired me to take up this course was the fact my disabled son May never find a job that he will be able to settle into, this is due to multiple dissability, such as ADHD, poor eyesight, lack of fine motor skills, too name but a few, but with the course and following certification , I will be able to provide a stable and secure future for him , as well as the rest of the family. he has also taken a keen interest in what I am doing and asks about my results for TMA's on a regular basis , this spurs me to achieve the results I have attained so far, having started the A+ course I never realised just how much information a computer technician must know and understand, that it's not just a case of knowing what to do , but being able to describe the process to a client and being able to describe a remedy for the problem. due to the A+ I can diagnose a problem and it's common causes, thereby being able to rectify the problem , or at least able to backtrack and find a solution to the problem. The way in which the course is structured , means that allthough unemployed at the moment, I am able to still activly seek permenent work, hopefully within the IT industry

This week I help my friend to solve the problem with detecting CD-ROM from BIOS. He said that he tested PC on viruses(spyware) but nothing happened. CD-ROM still was undetectable.

Before I sold out the problem I tried too many things. I change CD-ROM from other working PC. I tried to put some other IDE cable or change the jumpers (slave/master) but no results. After I suddenly remember that maybe virus change BIOS program settings. I reseted BIOS by jumper on Dell motherboard and change the jumper on CD-ROM on slave position and connect it to secondary IDE channel and on hard drive on master position and connect it to primary IDE channel. After BIOS start to detect all devices correctly. But Windows still not detect the CD-ROM because my friend did checking viruses not carefully. I made backup of all necessary data files and reinstall the operating system Windows XP. After that Windows start to detect all devices correctly. Then I install AVG antivirus program and checked on viruses myself.

My friend was very happy with me and I've got another good experience in solving PC problems.

I have updated my course therefore basically starting again because I know this will be more beneficial to me for my future career in IT. I work permanent nights and sometimes find it difficult to get the study time in but I just get my head into my folder and carry on knowing that the long terms benefits will be the reward for the hard yards I put in now. Also by completeing this course and getting my qualifications will get me back into the real world instead of being a social leper that permantly works whilst the rest of the normal people sleep.

This May not seem like a big acheivement to some people but believe me when ur sometimes doin 13 nights in a row the last thing you want to do when u get up is study, but that is the time that your determination to better yourself kicks in. Prior to starting this course I moved house and aswell as the study I have to find time to decorate my home, and believe me im not the worlds best decorator!!

I have been doing this course for a long time now. In fact, I had to start all over again right from section 1 since it was taking me so long. The reasons behind these are probably my own issues and own fault. For the past two years I have been battling depression and this hasn't done much to motivate me. But since starting again from section 1 I have been exceptionally determined to do my best and complete this course to the best of my ability. The only other thing I want more than a pass through this course is a family and a few months ago I became pregnant with my first child but suffered a miscarriage which was a huge blow to me and almost sent mw down that depressing road again. But I have remained focus and I have continued to work through my course, learning things I never new before like XHTML and actually putting it into practice. If anything, this makes me even more determined. I'm not saying this for any special reason; I just want you to know that I am going to complete this course and become a web designer no matter what.

None of the placements were paid, which ment I had to work somewhere else to get the money for living. It happened that I had to work for 50-60 hours a week to be able to attend work placement and my work as well and all the time I was studying for the certifications. Yesterday I finally got the job in City of York Council as a contractor to install computers which is a big step in my career. I would like to be considered for student of the month as I have just got a new job!!!!

For the past 5 years I was working for a large PLC, starting in 2nd line support and for the last 2 years have been their network administrator and 3rd line support consultant.

I started studying with Skill Train to gain CCNP certification with a view to getting a more technically specialised job. Ideally with an ISP or something similar where I could use the skills I had gained whist studying. I had previously been using ACC Colorado routers and Cisco 1600, 1700 & 7200's but only knowing what I needed to know to do my job.

I was browsing an agencies web site and saw a job that looked quite interesting so contacted the agency for more details and submitted my CV. I lived in Derby and the job was in Ilkley, North Yorks. But this didn't put me off. I went for a couple of interviews and ended up getting the job, apparently they interviewed quite a lot of people. I passed their tech test with flying colours, explaining various layer 1, 2 & 3 processes and theories.

I now work for Sarian Systems Ltd, as an IP network support engineer, answering tech queries from engineers. Sarian is the UK's largest router manufacturer, exporting routers worldwide! Have a look at our website, my picture May be on there soon as the Yorkshire Post has been in today and taken all our pics for some promotional material. The pictures are going on the web site so people can see who they are dealing with. They specialise in wireless WAN technology such as GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS etc... It's great!

I am renting a house in a small village up here whilst the house in Derby sells, my wife is having interviews with agencies up here but until she gets a job up here or the house sells, unfortunately we are living apart. One of us goes to the other house at the weekend.

I strongly believe that without being able to show good TMA results and being able to confidently talk about networking technologies I wouldn't have got this job. A certain amount of credit has to go to Skills Train for this. Thanks everyone!

I am now doing a job that is challenging and extremely interesting and pays a lot better than my network admin role at the last place. I am still studying hard but now have the added complexity of learning another manufacturers router commands that are nothing like Cisco!

Best regards

Since I started the course I have managed to keep up a near perfect record, scoring 97% or above in 80% of my assignments. I am proud of this because it is hard trying to find the time to commit the course while juggling a busy work schedule with being a father to three children. Being raised with computers, I already had an extensive knowledge before starting the course but having said that, in the past six months my skills have gone from strength to strength. And now I regularly put my skills to use helping and advising people with their computer problems in my local area. I don't generally charge for my services, and I am constantly critized for it but I like to help people. And this way I am constantly getting the opportunity to put what I have learned into practice.

Since I begun my course last February, it is in my mind that taking a course which is CCNA will help me boost my chance of getting a better job. The first three months of the course are all fine and then when the TMA needed now to explain what I have been studying it keeps me worried and it takes a lot of time doing the TMA. And then it is at the same time the pressure from work arrived not too much of thinking but doing more than 50 hours a week and sometimes more that 60 hours is so tiring and so my motivation goes down and for more that four months I've not summit nor done any of my TMA. Last month(October) Because of some frustrations in the job and the way I handle my day to day life, I remember that I have something that I have started with but did not bothered to go on with it. Starting from question from tha midle of my TMA I try to make one sentence of answer, then planning again that by tommorow I will do one question again, and again and suddenly before the week is gone I've already finished the TMA,Alas my TMA was done and my motivation to continue my course is on again. As I make my evaluation step by step, one by one what ever you do just hang-on it is just like " a thousand miles journey begin with the first step". For me It is my greatest achivement that I've done towards my course for it is much sweeter in second time around. And now as I've reicived my first TMA It is 100% correct and I am looking forward to my next 100% correct TMA again. Thats all for now, Thank you and more power.

I started with my N+, at first, life was very difficult for me combining my college works, my family and my trainnig. I thought of given up the trainnig because it wasn't easy for me at all. It was difficult because I didn't have good knowledge of networks. I was not even following the classroom sessions because I could not connect to the internet. Infact, that made everything worse.

Thanks to my lovely wife who has been so supportive and encouraging.

Now I have connected to the internet as encouraged by my wife, life has become pretty much easy and fun with my studies. I have carefully read and followed all the constructive and valuable informations on the MyStudentWorld. I can now manage my time very well with the help of study timetable. I am now enjoying my self study, and managing my family as well.

I am now working towards of completing my N+ course work, taking my exams and move on to CCNA. am happy my dreams wasn't brought to an end.

Thanks to SkillsTrain for your time to design mystudentworld. Everything is easy for me now and life is fun as well. I can easily submit my TMA online, view my progress, follow cyberclass, view new changes to my course etc. these has contributed tremendously to my study.

I feel so much confident of working in a network company now, this as a result of tremendous knowledge I have gained with skillstrain.

At the moment I am ungoing surgery and have at least 9 months of rehab/physio on my knee but am determined whilst I am laid up I can study even more, especially as there never seems to be enough time in the day at the moment.

I recently took my friends Laptop apart and fixed it, what a sense of achievement. I found out it was the inverter for the screen that was not connected properly causing it to keep going blank. So I saved her a few quid taking it to the shop. I now get all her mates giving me there's to have a look at which I can say is fantastic, putting all I have learnt into practise.

Considering my busy life as a father of two child, taking care of them while my wife is working as a nurse, a busy career in McDonald when my wife is off work, I always spend time in a day or night reading my N+ manual and answer the TMAs which I targeted to finish as early as I can and take the test which hopefully I could pass.

I'm on the second part of course now which I want finish it with the timetable I've set which is quite hectic because I'm going for a two months holiday in the Philippines for my youngest son's Christening, spending time with my family and my wife's family for the Holiday season.

He then walked around the hills here listening to it again. He found this very effective and has already started his third section in the same way. I have also been able to troubleshoot a problem with my own PC, which started freezing and crashing on random occasions. When rebooting my PC I discovered the PSU was making a strange noise so I replaced the PSU with a new one and my PC is now working fine.

My greatest achievement so far was just recently when my company (Linn Products) advertised a vacancy for a PC Technician. I applied for this explaining the course I was undertaking and they gave me a small practical and written test which I was successful at and have now been given a trial period in this role. I think I qualify for student of the month for the following reasons.

Some time ago I had a serious accident where I broke my back in seven places and quite severely damaged both my ankles; I have to take medication strong enough to knock out a rhino, on a daily basis. I am now registered as disabled or as I like to call myself physically challenged.

I decided that I would not just vegetate, so I kept exercising to get my body strong

And reading positive books like "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie. Also a autobiography by the late Christopher Reeves called "Nothing is impossible" This was a great inspiration as I was getting myself well.

The biggest inspiration is the love of my life my best friend my beautiful wife Val and my fantastic children who has picked me up through the low times in my life when I was in great pain.

I didn't think anything was going to change until one day I get a phone call from Skills Train something that I applied for a month earlier. I was so impressed by everything I was being told, by the rep that after the qualifying test I wanted to get started ASAP.

I decided that if I could no longer do the job I was qualified to do as an electrician for ten years, then I would change my prospects completely, so I chose the Microsoft A+N+/msca course.

I have just finished the 4th TMA and I am looking forward to the next part, I would have finished it sooner but as I have had to have various operations to make my life more bearable.

It was a bit of a struggle learning the assignments and getting them completed, but I never gave up even in the face of adversity like this.

I study 2-3 hours a day and an hour at weekends, I do this while I am teaching my son who has a condition called OCD, and so I teach him at home and doe's not attend normal school.

I am very proud of him; also as he is doing the course as part of his studies so we study together he is doing very well and he hopes to finish the course by the time he is 17 years old. I am looking to complete the whole course in 18mths Oct 2007 health permitting.

So I would like to thank Skills train for giving me a new opportunity to design a life for my self and my family who sooo deserve it.

I hope this can be an inspiration to other students who May be struggling and some doubt May have crept in saying "can I do this", "Hang in there keep going"

After tiring office work and family burdens, I was able to complete it, and with that I completed Section 1 also. I was very good what SkillsTrain is doing. Their study material is very helpful, very simple, elaborate and deep in subject. SkillsTrain is doing a great help to the students. Now the 'Student World' website is very informative and easy to use. For submitting TMAs it is very fast and reduces lots of hazzles. Communicating to teacher is very easy, simple and fast.

Thank you very much for all the help SkillsTrain is doing to the students.

I welcome all comments on my site good or bad.

I feel that I have achieved a lot since the start of my course. I have learn't how to study properly, and study something I am very interested in. It is important to me that I do the best I can, because rather than do something in my spare time for fun, I want to do this for my career, for my life. So that drive, the passion I have enables me to keep going, to keep studying, even when sometimes it feels like there is no end to it and no light at the end of the tunnel. When I am studying and I get that feeling that I have understood a certain topic or area I know nothing or had little idea about, it gives me great satifaction and a massive sense of acheivement, and by testing my knowledge through the course material and the exams I submit every month, I look forward to seeing the results and monitoring my progress both on the computer and online. I feel that I am doing very well and having a chance to put my name forward, for other people to see what I can do, what I can acheive, again is a big confidence boost.

The 'Javascript module' for me has become an unique module in a sense that the syntax used in this module is quite different than others, I need to keep concentrate all the way through to post assessment.

This is my part time correspondance course. I need to give almost 75% time to other work for earning to paying fees for this course, supporting to my dependents and for paying house rents and utility bills, financially it has become hard me to manage at this stage. Considering this all, I am really working hard towards completing successfully this course as soon as possible, and as a result I have achieved an excellent score (95% score in the last TMA) and, also in average I have maintained a very good score. I am much sure that after completion of this course I will win a better job for my better future and safer life.

I love the course contents as such: Javascript - 'you are' characterised by many features as; scripting language, event-driven, platform independent, interpreted by client, object-based, loose typing, dynamic binding, secure, code integrated with HTML, quick development time. 'You' strictly follow a hierarchy model making three ladders; language, browser and form field objects. In this regard I am doing my best to bring 'you-Javascript' in my picture, a complete picture, I love playing with you and I am trying you to use a maximum, you are my everything and I keep you tough in every pulse.

Bye bye and thank you -Javascript

See you soon.

Yours,

I managed to catch up with all my assignments after starting again with the new course material during the end of October and the start of November. I also work full-time so it has not been easy to find the time to put in the extra hours needed to catch up. Not only that but thanks to the knowledge I have gained in the last month I was able to take my friends old PC that didn't work and find the problem with it (the PSU) and offered to fix it for him (he got a new one so he said no). I did however manage to salvage things that my friend needed like photos and things that have great sentiment to him. In return he let me keep most of the parts from that PC and I have found time to practice some of the things that might come in handy while doing this course, for example I installed a second harddrive in my PC and also installed a second CD drive amongst other things.

I have found that if you have an old PC you can open up and delve around in it helps you to understand better the things you have been reading about within the course. The practical things I have done over the last month or so have really allowed me to enjoy the work within the course aswell and giving me a better understanding of how they work

This month has been very challenging for me I set myself a time table of taking the N+ exam in mid December and at the same time carry on with my Cisco CCNA material. It is not easy switching between the two and working at the same time. I have been pleased with my progress although I can't stop beating myself after scoring 85% in my last assignment. But by the end of this month God willing I would have submitted at least 3 more assignments with marks over 90%. Furthermore my mother would be visiting in 3days time for a period of 3 weeks which would be a bit of a distraction but this won't make me lose focus on my objective. So it all rests on whether I can submit at least 3 more assignments with a good understanding of the material, be on top of the N+ material, entertain my mother, go to work oh and I forgot and help my sister with her stuff cause she is graduating and relocating to the U.S thus the main reason for my mothers visit and you know how much stuff women can have and my sister is no exception but I love her. And if this is not enough to at least earn me a prize for this month, I should remind you that it was my birthday this month and still carried on with my assignments on the day. So please be lenient, and have a nice day.

November has been very good month for me. I learnt a lot of new things and it helps me achieve some goals.

The most important achievement for me was my new job. At last I moved into IT industry. I am working now as a ICT Technician. Before I was working as a Health Care Assistant. On the interview I had a test to complete. There was 3 A4 pages with questions. A lot of them was about Active Directory, System and Network Security. Knowledge which I got studying my MCSE course helped me a lot. Without this course I would not be successful for that position. Before I stared this course I had had any knowledge about Active Directory and domain environment.

In November I was able to pass two TMA exams, and by the end of the month I am going to send another one.

Using knowledge which I got studying the course I helped set up wireless network on computer course, where I am voluntary tutor assistant.

Every now and again I am helping one of my friend to solve problems with computer. Most of the time I am giving him advices using telephone or VoIP. I hope it is good experience and it will help me in the future to fulfil my duties at work.

I have been able to complete my course, despite family (mum having cancer) and personal illness (me being registered disabled). Work my way through my course on my own and still be getting passes at 80% plus, which at times I found extremely difficult but knew this was something that I wanted to do so I made the time and hopefully will be rewarded at the end of it! Sometimes I had to take a few weeks break all depending on health situations but once both my mum and myself were feeling better I would be able to get a lot of my coursework done. Being mums carer sometimes made it very difficult but in the face of adversity and being under pressure both at work and home, personally I feel I have done excellent work.

I have been helping my friend build a computer, they do not have much money but knowing about each component really helped them to get a computer that would be suitable for them and not being too expensive.

I have also been learning as much as possible from the IT department at my part time work, who have helped me a lot. Some things I could not understand they would happily show me, on the conidition that it was in my own time, not business time.

Hopefully after tomorrow, the training in Luton anything that I was unsure about I will now be able to deal with it without any problems.

In recent weeks I have managed to study very had as I had to switch on the new course material from the old one. It was really hectic as I had also changed my shifts at work to work more shifts.

I am taking my course material to work and make use of the breaks that I have got there. I am studying very hard in between the breaks. I have got little time at home as I am to do most of the things at hoem because my wife is expecting a baby next month. So after finishing work before I eat my dinner I get into my study room and do most of the computer stuff and if there is any assignment to be submitted I do that in the middle of the night. I have really done something I thought I could not do especially considering the tight schedule I have got at work. This is really incredible.

Apart from that, at work I am doing most of the hardware support to PCs. I have found this really interesting and of great help to my course. Most managers are really relying on me if they have got any problems with their PCs especially now they know I am doing this incredible course. I am now able to troubleshoot some keyboard or mouse problems which is really a step in the right direction for me.

As outlined above you can really see that I have done absolutely an outstanding achievement in my studies. I cannot believe that with the time I swiched on to the new course material I would have done so much but because of the desire to excel in my studies I have gone an extra mile.

Before I started I knew practically nothing about IT, now I am happy with what I am learning and confident to start applying that to assisting friends and family with their IT needs.

The level I am at now to where I was before I started has been noticed by a few people as they have asked for the telephone number so they can enrol.

It has been challenging at times with juggling 3 children, 2 school runs a day, housework, shopping and cooking (yes I do this much as a man, lol) around the studies but with the easy format to the manuals given, the information is easily absorbed.

My children are happy with my new skills, I think maybe it's due to the fact that there are no excuses now about sorting them out a PC and keeping it maintained (unlike their old one).

I began my course middle of September 2006. I am 40 years old and was in a rut but I have always had good I.T skills so after doing some research I decided to go for the CCNP networking qualification.

The cost of the course was a bit daunting at first but I realised that if I couldn't prove my skills by gaining some professional qualifications then I would never be able to have the success that I feel my skills deserve.

I have been building and repairing my own computers for a number of years and I have also built a number of systems for others through recommendation mainly and I have a passion for all things computer related.

To enable me to pay my way through the course I have since taken on a second evening job to help out financially as well as my full time day job and I fit most of my studies into the weekends and evenings. It has been hard going but I know the end result is going to more than justify the sacrifices I have to make now.

Please also bear in mind that I also moved to my own home in a new City back in July 2006 and I am having to build that up from nothing because I was living at mums previously so I didn't have a lot of furniture or anything so juggling two jobs, getting my place in order the course plus a very special young lady that has come into my life too has been very challenging. Please consider as well that the young lady in question lives over 200 miles away and you can see that it has all become very challenging.

However, I have risen to the challenge and as I write this I am awaiting the result of my TMA 08 which is the last assignment in Section 1 Part A of the core hardware part of the A+. I think completeing that in a little over 2 months is quite a challenge with all the other things going on in my life and the long hours that I have to work to make ends meat.

I hope my story serves to inspire others out threre who are striving for success against the odds. Throughout my life I have constantly sought to become a better and more educated, caring and skillful person and for the first time on the CCNP programme I finally feel I am heading in the right direction.

I want to thank you in advance for your consideration and wish everyone all the best for success on their chosen courses.

Since I have started studying with Skills train I have gained a general knowledge and lots of information regarding IT sector. So after asking him a few question I have found he has installed a new hardware and also he installed twice Windows XP Professional over Windows XP Home edition, as I found the system file was corrupted OS couldn't boot properly so I put the CD in CD drive and used System Recovery Console and typed chkdsk /r and after completing the process I typed exit and restart and it was booted properly. I finally retired in 2005. I took up computing partly as a hobby, and fairly easily became reasonably proficient with word processing; spreadsheets etc., but wanted to delve into the mysteries of how a computer worked. I felt I needed a new challenge, but could not find a suitable course at local colleges. I therefore singed up with Skills Train for the PC Master course.

Although my business career was demanding, it was not academic, and academic work is hard going at my age after an absence of 54 years. Nevertheless after a slow start due partly to many other interests, I made steady progress and have completed the 17 TMAs for the 2003 course. I was about to try the mock exam, but obtained the material for the 2006 course. I have found this to be much more comprehensive and demanding, but it is an excellent revision method as far as I am concerned. I have set myself an objective of at least 2 TMAs a week, and have just submitted TMA 6. Time availability is conspiring against me as my wife has had a joint replacement and my household duties have increased. However, I remain determined, and am keeping to my schedule.

The whole learning process remains stimulating. My confidence in dealing with my own and those of my friends, computer problems is growing by the week. Memory remains a problem, but the additional 2006 material is helping this problem as well. I am very satisfied with the course content and my own progress.

The CIW Web Design Course has done beyond anything I had hoped for. This has been more like an adventure than school. To be frank and candid, I had little or no interest in information technology, due to the the fact that I find it extremely difficult to comprehend the too many terminology on the subject.

Let me confess that, I was a bit sceptical if I will be able to scale through the CIW training course. Not minding the fact that I already holds a Master's Degree. I find the CIW Web Design lesson notes highly straight-forward, simplified and well structured for easy understanding and demonstration.

Undoubtably, I have developed a lot more interest in the training. My present job is a very strenous and boring one, but reading my lessons notes and listening to the lab movies brings joy and hope to me after work hours.

There is the saying that the journey of a million miles begins with a single step.

I believe, I have taken that single step with CIW Web Design training to be kept abreast with the times and growth with the ever increasing technological development of the modern day.

God Bless the Management and Staff of the Skilltrain.

Best of Wishes in all your Endeavours.

I'm so excited after having operated a router for the first time. Meanwhile, I can't stop imagining how to route networks across buildings, cities or even countries and this first experience seem to bore some extra ambition in me (as shown in my pace and consistency in TMAs).

However, I stopped for a while and started thinking "what would happen if after troubleshooting a problem, I later realised that this is a hardware fault or rather, it is concerning a single PC or PCs (this is in the real world once I start working and of its scenario)?"

My newborn ambition streatched backwards and the answer I gave to this was embarking on the A+ course (as well to couple with my N+ status). In the near future, I shall show you my A+ certificate if need be.

What fascinates me most in this whole determination (and extra ambition) is the fact that it is done under tense work load and having to use the internet cafes on most occassions. I think I should be student of the month. Thank you so much for you time.

I have recently moved house and so my work has been slightly left behind. During the move instead of trying to confuse myself with new material I took the time to revise all the work that I have already completed. Now that the move has been completed I am getting back into a schedule of spending time after work everyday to read through the next part of the course materials,I even have space set aside in my new house just for my course work. Throughout my time on this course I have only had to resubmit work twice, and having learnt from these mistakes I try to make sure that I understand everything before attempting the assessments.

When I started this course my understanding of p.c's was fairly limited, although my pass marks for TMA's in the past have been high almost straight off (not too many re-admitted) and I felt quite proud of myself, however as the course has progressed it has become so much harder, perhaps I'm not seeking enough help from the college I don't know.

The other things I need to concider is my job has placed a lot of demand on me in the past six month's, I currently work for a distribution center processing orders for P.C's and P.C consumables from mouse mats to high end servers and cabinets, over the lst six month's I've taken on the role of nightshift supervisor, incharge of numbers from 6 to 60 odd people; Ive had a lot to learn in just my day time job, and have been required to work six nights a week (very tiring) .

Added to that is the pressure of home life, my wife was diagnosed nearly 7 years ago with having a brain tumor, 90% of this was removed in an operation undertaken by people who I can only admire as gods.

We then had an 8 week stay in france for a cutting edge state of the art radio/proton therapy, a procedure that is done in a handful of places around the world, such a specific type of treatment was necessary due to the type of tumor she had.

This had a knock on affect, where by it more or less stopped the pituitary gland from functioning.

This has meant that Suzy is now drug dependant for the rest of her life, just to give her the quality of life that you or I take for granted.

And so, faced with all that, I feel very proud, even though I've taken a huge amount of time to get to the stage I'm at, with every passing TMA I feel it's another great achievement

Although in my course I have not really achieved much this month, outside of my course in my job I have achieved so much. At the beginning of the month I found out that my company was pleased with my overall progress in html/css/javascript and page layouts and that they had decided to turn my temp contract into a full time perm contract, this was fantastic news as it shows that I am developing my skills and putting them into practice the right way. Also I have learned how to use <div> class within html, I didn't even know that I could add a <div> class and then do all the styling in CSS, this made me very happy as it meant that I could have the styling for all my pages in 1 extneral style sheet rather than an extneral style sheet for every seperate page.

I have put these skills into practice at the following URL: http//:www.cheap-charter-flights/Pract, if you wish to see my progress, at that URL is my fav site design running off my works server.

I have also just started to learn flash at work, I plan to continue learning this over the next month so that I can add some interactivity into my web pages to make them a little bit more interesting instead of just static web pages.

After I started the course I got a new job that involved travelling away from home 3-4 days a week. This made finding time for study harder than normal. Throughout this period, I have still managed to regularly send in my TMA's and have been achieving a consistently high score(98.6% average) in them. With what I have been learning I have started trying to apply to my current job to increase my skills and simple things such as using windows explorer I now try and use DOS to get a feel for what it is like. I have even been learning new functions outwith the scope of the A+ course(such as NET USE) and am thoroughly enjoying the experience. I am hoping to devote even more time to the rest of the course in the future and continue to use it in my current job and to try and exceed what is required of me. I am currently looking to get a new computer as I have to do the work on my work computer(which has security policies applied) which is making it hard to practice certain aspects of the course. I hope to continue the standard I am setting myself and see a real benefit from the course. What I have done so far has increased my confidence in using computers drastically and now any problems I come across I try to apply my new knowledge to fixing the problem rather than relying on Helpdesks etc.

A year ago I had just basic knowledge of the computer. If there were any little problems on my PC, I would seek advice from my family and friends. I discovered "skills-train" and arranged a meeting with one of their representative in May 2005. After spending nearly three hour with the representative I was convinced that this company can give a boost to my knowledge of the PC and will help me to get a better job. I have joined the course of "PC Hardware and Maintenance (A+)", "Net Master (N+)" and "CISCO qualification (CCNA)" Since I start my study, it has given me a lot of self confidence.

At the moment I am studying "Net Master (N+)" part of the course, and have recently finished all the assignments of "PC Hardware and Maintenance (A+)" part of the course with nearly 100% marks in the first attempt, while I was working full time and personal life. I had to put some extra effort to achieve this but I am sure it will be paid off when I get my final exams results. I hope to sit in the exam in beginning of the New Year after I will finalise my revision for the A+ part of the course. Then hopefully I will be looking for employment in this field.

Now I have obtained a lot of knowledge of computers through this course. Now I am in a position to solve any problem on my computers as well as at work and friends/family's computer. Recently one of my colleagues at work was having some problem on her computer and she was seeking help from our "Computer Support Officer (CSO)" but our "CSO" couldn't detect the problem. I took initiative to look in to it and manage to solve it, although I don't work in the IT section at my work. Since then I became "Floor Walker" for IT section and provide help to my colleagues. This is a big step forward towards my personal achievement. This wouldn't have been possible without the "skills-train".

Personally I have experienced that the tutors at the "skills-train" are very helpful and friendly. They are always willing to offer comprehensive advice on any part of the course. I would recommend this course to everyone who is looking for better career move.

It my sounds ordinary, but I finaly achieved to get myself back to studies. I couldn't really do anything for last few months ( my last exam was taken in July ). In that time, my familly have got in to trouble ( some personal stuff, so I can't write about everything ), and whole situation ended up a very difficult way. My wife had to go back to Czech in summer, so I stayed here alone, which put a big financial presure on me, cause from now, I had to pay for all the bills and living by my self. With job I do ( shop assistant ), this was very difficult, I had to take lot of overtimes, and so on, and at the end of the day, there was no time left for studies ( I only slept 4 hours a day anyway ).

In the moment, financial situation is still quite bad, but I managed to cope with it somehow, and decided to make some other sacrifices ( my company ) for hopefuly better future in IT job ( plus, I'm paying for those studies all that time, and feeling that if I won't study, it's just money down the drain does a lot as well ).

So, I started again this week...and guess what? It's going better and better as I'm moving on.

I feel I have 2 main achievements:

General achievements

Oct/Nov 06 achievements

General achievements:-

SURVIVING. Thought returning to studying would be ok and now older I would take things in a bit more. Had very little computer knowledge when starting the course. Defrag, emailing, internet, the basics.

I am a mother of 7 children in total, 4 of my own that live with me ( ages 13,11,7,4) and 3 step-children (14,13,11) that stay at a weekends. At 35years old and a stay at home mother for 10years, taking on these courses was a challenge, the odds were against me regarding to time and quietness. But routine, organisation and support and the will to achieve the impossible has helped.

I want to say THANK YOU tutor's for the study time table, this has become my bible! I print it of each week and note what I have studied and what amount of time I have done.

Fitting studying in is VERY hard, with a 4 yr old STILL at home, and noise of 4 children on week nights and then 7 on weekends. I have achieved something I did not feel I might not. Study regularly and achieve good results (average mark 90%) in my A+ course.

Now at the end I am cramming in revision from notes on week days, with time at the library and weekends studying toward new N+ course.

I also lost my grandfather April 05 and when I started the course was still grieving some what. Through hard work, routine, structure and commitment. I feel I have achievement so much and grown as much as a person this last year. I have now with the help of this course, upgraded 5 computers for friends and family (power supplies, graphics cards, memory etc) , one which was suffering from a fatal virus and would not boot up.

Oct/Nov achievements:-

I sadly lost my grandmother also on the 9th Oct this year. This is a hard time now grieving for two grandparents. I took two weeks in Oct out of any studying for personal time out. I needed it. It's now few weeks on; I can look back at what I have done. My assignment marks, course notes, study times, house (how tidy and clean it still is!), my routine and my family (they haven't suffered!) and ME. I personal have achieved many things than just TMA results.

My daily routine:

Morning: 8:30am -12pm

School run times two children

Library visited with books (2hrs studying)

12:15pm -3pm

Creative time/educational time, Park with 4 yr old.

3-4Pm School run/ homework, evening meal prepare.

4-5pm chores and talk time with family

6-8pm Children time and bed times

8:30 - 12am quiet study time for me. (Approx. 2-3hrs)

I am achieving about 4 hours a day studying with flexibility around a noisy and busy family. From Sept I achieved with the wonderful help of my family and husband 20 hours of study. Oct 24 hours and up until today 23 hours for Nov. I believe this achieved through the commitment and hard work from me and the wonderful support I have from my husband and children. My A+ and more recently N+ (Tma 6 = 100 %) marks are proof of this. This makes me so proud of myself.

These are my achievements, to someone that maybe small ones, but to me that are big ones (personal and educational). Studying around 7 children and having to work hard and take in and understand the course fully, has been stressful. You can achieve anything, if you put your mind to it. I feel I have and the odds I feel were against or should I say the 'noise' of 7 children, the cat ,the dog and the Hubsand!

Thank you

I have been working in biological sciences as a reseerch scientist for the last 10 years on short term contracts. I am unhappy that every few years I have to look far another contract. Few months back, I decided to get out of this vicious circle and looking for to change my career.

Now I have made up my mind and would definitely make a change into IT. I think IT industry would help me to find a stable career.

I am very sincere and working hard for the last few months. I work 6 days a week and have three dependent childern. It is very difficult to accommodate everyone but I am trying my best to keep up my course work going at a dsteady pace along with my routine job comitments. In the month of November I was able to complete my assignments with exceptional results most with 100% score.

In this month I taught my wife, how to use resources on the internet (She has never used a computer before and had been a house wife after the birth of my childerns). The childerns have grown up and she find herself uncomfortable at home and is on look for a fresh career. Somehow, she is looking forward to move in the IT field as well when we have our finance become a bit healthy. She is learning how to use microsoft word application for everyday use.

I hope that I shall be able to complete my Network+ course work within the next few weeks and would move onto the next part (CCNA).

I think I have progressed well on Network+ part of course as reflected by my score despite hardship of regular job and family life.

I was able to safe enough money to buy a new laptop since I came in this country and after 3 months of struggle finaly conect it to the internet. My laptop does not have PCMCIA slot which made it most complicated as the satelite connection was my only option. So here I am. Luckyly I done the first asignment with 100% results. I was always finding lots of advertisemts regarding this qualification in newspapers, internet, local job centres etc. Then I have decided to gain a certificate within IT.

I have found many colleges and other private sectors that they provide a qualification through IT industry so I took all of thier brotchure to a career expert in Southampton City College so she choose the Skills Train and she advised me to do a MCSE.

When I start my course it was a bit hard but then after a month it was imazing studying in your peace of time with so comfort and interactive CDs and other great facilities made me to gain lots of information regarding IT and the most interesting thing is I always get calls from my friends when they have problems with thier PCs or Laptops and even I dont bother to go to thier house I just sorte out thier problem over the phone and trust me when I go to play soccer on weekends with friends they are calling me hey the computer expert man how you doing?

It's all in all amazing and I do persuide lots of my friends to join the skills train till now two of them has joined.

Thanks to all Skills Train staffs to provide such a great materials to our people who can gain a good knowledge of IT within a very short period of time.

I don't know what the rest of the competition is like and what other courses people are on and what they are acheiving, but everyday I feel like I acheive more & more and I am learning something new all the time, much more that I do in my current pointless job. I am currently studting for my TMA 16a, this is one of the toughest exams I have had to do since I started my course and if I do well in this I will be more than happy, please consider me for the student of the month as I am working all night when I get in from work to acheive my goal. Merry Christmas.

I beieve that I could be a strong candidate for student of the month for christmas. This belief comes not only from me but from my wife also who regularly assesses how my progress is coming along by regularly doing random tests on my ability, just by selecting a binder from the bookcase and asking random questions.

Recently I have struggled with some of the questions she asked me and have had to ask to see the paragraph she has read out to me.This has prompted me to study harder, to the point where I am now asking her to test me,safe in the knowledge that I should be able to give a comprehensive answer every time. For anyone reading this who is struggling, I would strongly suggest this method of self-testing.It has improved me immensely. Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas to each and all.

I am currently a dad of two children 7 & 2 who's partner works from 7am to 12midnight 7days a week so I have to care for both including school runs, food, cleaning and everything in between. I also work part time at night 7 days a week( sister babysits) and visit my 90 year old grandmother daily whom I part care for. During all of this I always find time to study hard making costant notes and leaving reminders around the house to help memorise subjects I struggle to understand. I do not pass my tma's first time every time but when I do not I revise well and pass second time. This year has been hard but rewarding and I now have 1 year remaining and am looking forward to learning more and earning a brighter future. Thankyou

My reasons for entering for student of the month are because I feel I have managed to stay focused on my studies and achieving high marks in my tma`s recently even after the birth of my new baby son (we all know how much time and attention a new baby needs), getting married (what have I done!!) and suffering a berevement of a close family member and im in the process of moving house (one of the most stressful things a person has to do, following marriage !!) so my time has been very limited to say the least especially as I work full time, my wife says I need a medal but she May be a tad biased (or shes after something!!)

Although I had completed the section on Perl languages on my course, I was very concerned that I could not put all the pieces of knowledge together to write a complete piece of script, as there were different ways of getting the same result. I spent a week revising the folder and then tackled the TMA assignments 11a and 11b. They have taken a lot of concerntration and about 16 hours to complete, but I suprised myself. Although I got stuck a couple of times and needed the help of the tutor team, I managed to find my own way through the questions and come up with results that worked. Even though I was sent the example answers, on only 2 questions did I need to "borrow" part of the script. I don't know that this really qualifies as a student of the month, however it has been such hard work and I am so pleased that I knew more than I thought, I felt that if nothing else, you would like to know of my personal sense of achievement.

The achievement for me has to be studying the course since I started this course from July till now I've been getting 100% in my assignments in some of them and rest of them 80% to 90% which is amazing experience for me not only that since from July my start date I got upto assignment 9 which I feel the course I'm doing I progressed quite quickly, the course I'm studying is web designer manager I can't believe I progressed so quickly with help from tutors and reading through the files plus lab files which sometimes I do struggles but eventually by trying my best I can do it. It's not easy doing computer course such as web designing which person don't have much knowledge on the only thing I new about web was browsing the net but now I've learnt quite alot which I learnt progressing from one assignment to another achieving different from one chapter to the next is how I learnt about web designing I've been lot of depression doing other things finding jobs going to jobcentres and giving the learning agreement to the jobcentre which they use to ask for it everytime these things wouldn't let me study so having lot on my mind it was hard for me to concentrate on this course well I still got good results on my assignments, even with all of these problems I hopefully pass section 1-part B file fully complete before christmas that will be greatest achievement for the year 2006.

I have been studying with skillstrain for a little over a year now and have achieved nine straight assignments in a row so far and looking forward to taking the exam in a few months time. It has been very difficult for me to try and keep up with my timetable I created studying for at least two hours a night however I have done extremely well given the circumstances that was dealt to me. My partner's father died only four months ago so it was important for me to support her and put the brakes on with my studying for a month or so to help her come to terms with her loss, couple that with me working three jobs and working just over sixty hours a week the struggle has been as you can imagine very tiring at times. Nevertheless I am still enjoying this course and cant wait for the exam as I feel I am fully prepared I am loving this course to the full and find I am even spending time at work on my tea breaks and lunch studying I would like to be considered for the award but I do realise there are others that also deserve it probably just as much as I do. Success Story:

In July of 2006, I moved on my own from my mums in Sheffield to my own place in Manchester which is a two bedroom high rise flat. The place needs a lot of work doing and I am starting my home from scratch as I was previously living at my mum's house in Sheffield. I also have no family support in Manchester so am having to do everything on my own.

I moved here because the Home Office moved me to an office in Manchester on promotion back the previous September of 2005 and the commuting between Sheffield and Manchester was becoming too much. It was taking an average of 4 hours out of my days with all the travelling.

I also began to realise that my wages were less than adequate to cover all my bills as a result of having my own place so began looking around at alternatives. I have always had a passion for computers but lacked any formal qualifications. By chance one Thursday evening back in September of 2006 I saw an advert in the Manchester Evening News for Skills Train and CISCO engineers earn up to £750 per week. I did some more research and found out that CISCO skills were very much in demand.

However, I knew the course would cost so I re-organised my finances so that I was able to sign up and pay the deposit. I decided along with my advisor that I would embark on the CCNP qualification, taking the A+, N+, CCNA and of course the CCNP which is my objective. Finances were already pretty tough so in October of 2006 I took on a second evening job to bring in the extra money to help me pay for my course and to enable me to eat basically.

Since I began the course I have already completed the Section 1 part A of the core hardware module and have already submitted TMA09 and had the results and TMA10 has been submitted this very evening as well. Also bear in mind that the place I am living in is currently like a building site because of all the DIY work that is required to get it habitable.

So in conclusion I am doing a full time job during the day plus working part-time 5pm - 9pm in the evenings and 8 am - 2 pm on a Saturday, I am gradually working on my place and getting that habitable and I feel that I am making above average progress on the course as well.

Thank you for considering my submission in advance and my best wishes to everyone for Christmas and the New Year.

Hello Everybody,

May I introduce myself? Ok. Read follow and hope you will enjoy.

Introduction: -

Myself from Grantham, Lincolnshire, origin India. I have been here in UK since October'05. By education I am an Electronics Engineer. I did my study in India - ok I finish my introduction here since there is much more below and I don't want to write my full autobiography.

About Me, Skills-Train and my Knowledge: -

I am always interested in Hardware (Electronics) and that's why I joined Engineering in Electronics in Baroda, India. Then I started to gain more and more knowledge about electronics but from the beginning I was keen towards the digital electronics and especially towards Computer Hardware. I got some general knowledge about computer hardware during my study but I wanted to get more. But as I was doing engineering I couldn't find time to join any extra course in computer hardware/Networking, but thanks to my personal computer which started misbehaving after one year and that encouraged my to fix it myself and gradually I got knowledge to fix PSU problems, putting extra RAM, installing new CDROM and hard disk and if I stuck somewhere I took help of my IT friends but still that's not enough I was thinking to fix it completely myself!!

In October'05 I came here in UK to join my wife and started hunting for job according to my qualification, but I couldn't succeed to get even single part time job since I didn't have any experience relating to my qualification. So I started looking IT jobs and fortunately I succeed to have an interview, I knew that my IT knowledge was not enough to get the job but I didn't have any other option to get better job, so I just tried my luck! Though I was appreciated for my knowledge but I was advised to have some course in PC Hardware and Networking.

And this job hunting took almost 6 months so I had to face financial problems since my wife had already bought a house so we had pay mortgage. Though my wife was dong job but still it was very difficult to survive and so I couldn't join any full time course. So then I started looking for any part time or full time job and some distant learning course in Computer Hardware and Networking. And fortunately one day I found about Skills Train on Internet and filled up my information. After couple of weeks I got good news, I got a job like part time in a factory. And again after couple of weeks to join my job I got a call from an officer from Skills Train and he wanted to meet me at my home so I fixed the day and time. He explained nicely me about the course in which I was interested and also about the fees! So now it was another problem in front of me! I could take loan to pay my fees but still it was difficult to pay back the loan, but a lot thanks to one of my relatives who financially help me. So then I joined Skills Train, course in A+, N+ and MCSA.

But this is not the happy end, since when I joined the course I was doing like part time job so I could get enough time to study but after few weeks of joining the course, I was offered to have full time job in the same factory and I accepted it. So now new problems started, I had to manage my shift work and some house work but still I could find couple of hours to study on weekends by avoiding some events and parties!!

So by this way I have finished my A+ course and started learning N+ but still I need to give final examination of A+ and I know I will manage it!!

Benefits to join Skills Train to me:-

The first and most helpful benefit to join Skills Train is Distant Learning. I can work and earn money along with my study. My friends in India are surprised to know that I got my own house and car while doing work and study together.its great!... thanks to Skills Train.

Before joining A+, I was thinking that I got much knowledge about PC hardware but I was wrong, I gained much more from A+ course material. Earlier I could fix some limited problems of my PC and sometimes my friends' PCs, but now I can fix many more problems with confidence. Within last few months I took back up my laptop, format the hard disk and installed Microsoft XP operating system. I have installed a new extra RAM and replaced the PSU in one of my relative's PC. Now I can say, 'If you have any problem with PC tell me, I can fix it''.

Also I am going to make my PC after two-three months when Microsoft will launch Vista Operating system. So I will find out which hardware is supported by Vista then I will make my own Super Computer!!!

Other peace of mind benefit of Skills Train is its money back guarantee to give job.

In short I gained much more knowledge about Computer Hardware during A+ and now I am looking forward for same with N+ and I know I will have bright future just because of Skills train and my desire to get more knowledge!!

Comments Time:-

Many times I talked and emailed to the non teaching staff to solve my queries about course material and others, and they all seems very nice and helpful, but I can't succeed to talk with any of my tutors!! Rest of all Excellent!

This is my story, my study success, feelings about Skills Train and my bright future!

Hope you enjoyed reading it.

Thanks for reading,

Your sincerely,

Well, I have landed at UK for about 7 months. I have come here in a work permit to work in a restaurent so currently working fulltime in a nepalese restaurent in Bournemouth. I know when I left my country, I had so many expectation that I would earn as much I would for the living and also I would support my family in Nepal. But the bitterness of living started to arose and started to realise that life in here is not so easy that I have imagined. I have started thinking what I have lost coming here for work because I used be a student of electronics and communcation enginnering in Nepal. Because I have realised the importance of studies. This was always in my mind that I must study something over here beside working in the restaurent. With lots of confusions and things like that what to do ...what to study..where to study....I saw skilltrains and was able to meet one of the correspondant. Then I started to see the dream of being in the techical field which is ofcourse much better then working in the restaurent. I had this eagarness of studing in my mind and as soon as I joined this course the first thing I had gained is the relif. The feeling that I am studing for good is really accelerating. I have been doing Comp TIA A+ certification and now in the section B and in most of the TMA I am getting 100 % result which is really encouraging. Now I dont have any regret of leaving my Engineering Field in Nepal.I would like to express my sincere thanks to my tutors.

- Understanding of what IT is and the Internet about

- Understanding some specific terminology in connection with computing fields

- Understanding the process and the tools that enable the use of the Internet

- Troubleshooting using TCP/IP facilities

- Using e-mail services and search engines

- Understanding (by very bad experience) the importance of security measures, and how to protect an intranet from unpleasant surprises

- Basics of Web page creation using Web technologies

- Some knowledge about Internet protocols and their functions.

I have learnt about IT departments also, their structure and various job professionals involved in a computer business environment.

It is just the beginning and I am looking forward to educating myself even further.

Also I realised that I need to equip myself with a professional degree to get a good job in growing sector. I selected CIW course and joined in April 2006. In the month of August my mother ( who was already diagonised as Cancer patient) became critically ill and I have to move to India suddenly dropping all my plans here. After a struggle of 3 months my mother recovered by God's grace & again pursued my studies. I enquired institute about taking the exam in India itself and got a positive reply. Hence I proceeded with my studies and gave exam in sept and cleared the foundation course. I am now more confident & determined to complete this course and positive about getting a new career.

In firs few days of December I sent across two TMAs. For the first one I gained 95% and I am still waiting for the results of the second. I expect that I will pass it. My average result for all of TMAs which I sent is over 90%.

My biggest achievement in first few days of December was giving hope for to my friend who is looking for a better job. We both came to this country several months ago. Our first jobs were low paid, brought very little satisfaction and they were below our ambitions. I decided to improve my qualifications and this MCSE course helped me a lot. I got new job in November. My friend realized that against common opinion it is possible to get better position. I inspired him and give him hope to do something what can change his life in significant way. Now he is thinking about signing up for a MCSE or MCSD course, and I believe that I will introduce him to SkillsTrain. I am very proud of that I gave hope and helped somebody to believe in himself. This and my new job which I got in November with great help of MCSE course has been my biggest achievements this year.

I have been working in Biological Sciences as research scientist on short-term contracts for a long time and wasn't making progress to extend my career. Few months back I had a deep thought and arrived at a conclusion that I couldn't do the same given a second choice. Then I made a key decision to change my career and having done some research I have decided to make IT broadly and in particular is a Networking specialist. I have now less than a year on my regular job and working really hard achieve some skill and qualification.

As a result, regardless what happen, I kept my thought focused and continuing my course at full pace. I am working on my regular job 6 days a week, do help my kids for home work, help my partner in the kitchen, who have been poorly health wise for sometime. It is really hard to keep it going but my determination and belief that I can do it is definitely driving force. Now I am reaching towards the end of my Network+. I hope to have this finished before Christmas 2006. Let's see I far I managed to go. I am also helping my wife to learn basics of Microsoft word, XL spreadsheet and PowerPoint.

In the last month or so I have completed almost 6-7 TMA assignments most with 100 % score apart from the one where I scored 80%-(on this particular week Though all the family was down with cold including me. Despite not being in good form of health I kept my mind absolutely in focus and was not prepared to miss the opportunity to send back TMA). Having done well, I think I deserve to be rewarded for the first prize this month.

I shall be 51 this year and have surprised myself at putting myself through this course which isn't all plain sailing. I have designed websites using WYSIWYG software without really understanding what happens behind the web pages, so the html and xhtml has been like another world to me.

I have been surprised also with my consistency this month being the first time I have scored less than 75% but as with other students it is the feeling of something well done when you get the high marks and the well dones from your tutor that gives you the incentive to cover that extra yard.

Web designer or manager who knows but one thing to come out of this will be the ability to write better sites if nothing else!!!

Well, I fell that I have maintained a high average throughout the A+ part of the course. I have had a few different circumstances in which doing the work has been difficult such as, I am currently working at the same time at Capgemini, a IT Support Company, I do there 7am to 4pm, which is really time consuming becuase I am tired all the time, the only time I get to work is Saturday and Sunday. Apart from this, there was a situation where my mom and dad had to leave over the christmas period to go India. I was left home with my younger brother and sister. My parents left me with the responsibility to pay bills, look after everyone else, do shopping etc. Most these things were extremely hard because I was on a strict budget and taking into account that I do not drive. I feel that sharing the responsibilty between my brother and sister was a good idea, becuase then it relieves pressure from myself.

Since I applied for CCNA+ course and received my first book, have not had much time to study. Last year after Christmas I decided to start studying, and took it very seriously. I have finished the original N+ PART A book, all my assigments has been marked in 3 weeks, when the updates were released. So I thought that I was going to start the new N+ PART A book from the beginning.
By now I finished this book, just in 2 weeks, send my assignments continously. I have learnt and studied a lot and more every day, gained my knowledge. I am very determined, enjoying studying, wanting to learn, because I have a very good reason. Before I moved to Scotland I had been working in IT for 6 years. I had more practise than theoritical knowledge. This course helps me get to know and learn new things in IT, completely understand what I had done and why in my previous IT jobs. I want to go back to work and establish a new career in IT sector, just love it.

In April 2006 I was diagnosed with lung cancer after many visits to doctors and hospitals.I had been complaining of a pain in my back for several months but nobody could pin it down, naturaly I was devastated, after all I was complaining about my back not my chest.I went into hospital in May of the same year where they removed one of my lungs (along with the tumor).Unfortunately it transpired that the cancer had spread to my spine and they daren't operate on it for fear of leaving me paralized.I then had to start Radiotherapy treatment on my spine to try and reduce the tumor there. This has been relatively succesful, but obviously it is always on my mind. When the doctors told me I would not be able to carry on working,I thought that I May as well curl up and die. When you have been as active as I was it's not easy to give it all up,even at my age, 60 years young. That was when I saw an advert for Skillstrain.I knew very little about computers much less on how they worked, but I thought "WHY NOT".I arranged an interview with one of there representatives and HERE I AM.I started studying the course and found it very difficult at first, after all,it's been a long time since my school years.A couple of times I thought about giving up thinking "what's the point" but thanks mainly to my wife and a couple of close friends,I stuck at it.They have given me the support and encouragement I needed, through all the bad times(and a few good ones).I have surpassed all my expectations as my marks reflect. To get reasonable marks would have been an achievment for me,but I am reaching marks of 100% on a regular basis.I can now hold my head up and say "I CAN DO IT".At the onset I didn't envisage taking the exam, but that is now very much a part of my plans.Don't ever let anybody tell you it can't be done, because I have proved,at least to myself, that it can.It has been a very difficult couple of years for myself and my wife, but I can go on knowing that nothing is impossible,it just takes a bit of working at.Maybe some of the other students May read this and take heart from it.REMEMBER,NOTHING COMES EASY,you have to work for it.

Using the skills I have learned in the past few months, I set about building and setting up my own home network. Setting up my network, which is both hard wired, and wireless, to connect my Desktop PC, to my Laptop, interfacing with my wireless broadband router, and an external "Network" hard drive, I was feeling quite pleased with my achievements. However my elation was short lived !
I returned home, last Saturday to hear my Desktop PC clicking away to itself, with the power light and the DVD writer busy light flashing continuously. This was also accompanied by a faint "electrical burning" smell. I quickly unplugged the power supply, and with an initial feeling of dread, I opened up the PC Case to start my investigations. I hadn't even removed the cover, when my training, and knowledge started to take over. I cleared a large work area, donned my anti-static wristband, earthed my self and started from the beginning. With notebook and pen, I started my investigations....... disconnect all ancillary components, and those not needed for start-up. Re-connect the power - still the same indications. disconnect the power, and disconnect the power feed to the motherboard. using a multi-meter check the supply voltages to the power connector. +12V only reading 1.3V, +5V only reading 3.1V. Initial reaction - blown power supply. On visually checking the motherboard, there were signs of blackening, and distortion on one of the chips, so I suspected that the Motherboard May be damaged as well. To prove this, I replaced the Power Supply with a known good spare, but on powering up, I got the same indications as before.
I now knew that the power supply was faulty, and either the Motherboard, or Processor, or both was also faulty. I then did some internet research, and discovered that e-machines 790 desktops, (the make of my PC), were susceptible to a triple failure of the Power supply, Motherboard, and processor. I contacted a local PC company who also agreed with my conclusions.

So what next?

Well, having just completed the module on "Purchasing a PC, or building your own", I did some research, and decided that I could upgrade my PC to a "current" spec, at a not too extortionate price. Buying the necessary parts (a WinFast 761GXK8MB Motherboard, and an Athlon 3800 - 64bit processor bundle), I was able to confirm that my current memory was compatible, and that it would fit my existing Tower case. I happily set off home, secure in the knowledge that I had all the parts I needed, and that they would all fit together nicely.
I stripped down the old unit, in the reverse order of building, and replaced the Power supply first. I found that I could slide the DVD drive forward in it's housing, and easily fit the new motherboard. A couple of the connections on the front of my tower had different plugs that would not fit the new Motherboard. However, the motherboard documentation allowed me to modify the connectors, and connect them, (headphone socket, and microphone).

Starting the PC for the first time was a little nerve racking, but no problems starting, no error messages, and apart from having to re-install Windows, I generally had no problems. Loading the drivers for the motherboard, for on-board Video and Sound, from the CD supplied with it, made everything go smoothly, and my system is now up and running again.

My initial reaction, on discovering the failure, was one of dread and despair, but by following the trouble shooting guides, and using the lessons that I have learned, the whole experience turned into a valuable and practical training lesson. I know that I'm not the best PC Technician in the world, but someday...... someday.

After a completely crazy, hectic year and a half combining a full-time job, my wedding, moving house and doing the CIW course, last week I received the mark for my last exam: hurray! Although I will take a break before preparing for the exam to be CIW certified, I already have a job for a company doing websites and helping on the e-learning section (can I insert a smiley here ;>?). Today, I finished my first website for the company and I shall take my very patient friends out for a meal they very much deserve for being there every time I needed them.

I moved to the UK where my skills in my native language weren't of much use and I had to completely rethink my career: now I can work with the language of computers, which is common throughout the world. At the beginning the amount of information on the course seemed overwhelming – there was so much to learn! I felt lost and clumsy, but the way all the information is linked makes learning like completing a puzzle, where you start with a couple of pieces and can't even tell if they are upside down, to reach a global view of how everything works. I like the way it is light enough to make reading easy but also keeps pointing at all the areas that can be further investigated, specially the programming languages. The first months the hours seemed to shrink, and by the time I started to understand what I was reading, the alarm would go on to say that it was time to go to work, or to look for flats, or to check on the bridesmaids dresses! I was exhausted, and sitting in front of the book with the computer rather than crawling to the sofa didn't sound like a brilliant idea, but I wanted to have something to look forward after the wedding. The best present I could offer my husband was a more confident wife: I wanted to be able to contribute more to our future family. As soon as the course started with the interactive activities, where you can actually see how the code and the programming can make things happen, learning started to be much easier and very enjoyable, and I felt tempted to go down all the new paths the course was pointing at.

As a note, the wedding was fantastic (what can I say? we are in love!) and it was very rewarding seeing everyone we care for sharing that evening with us – although we still have some Thank You cards to write. We have also moved into the new flat: there are still some doors to sand and the kitchen and another room to paint, but it is starting to look like “home”. Today we are celebrating that the missed hours of sleep, the rushing and the weekends studying were very much worth the effort. To everyone that is still studying: you are almost there!

".....In the face of adversity".... Well....I'm disabled and constantly use crutches. I suppose many would consider that adversity to a degree. My hard drive died and I had to correspond using snail mail. Another adversity? I'm a mother of 2 primary school aged boys, and my husband works shifts. Perhaps that is a 3rd adversity, I don't know.

".....Working under pressure".... My 2 sons are hard work at their age, so yes, pressure is a constant from that point of view. We are a single waged family, moved into a new home last July, and seldom have any spare cash. The pressure is on me to complete this course, pass the exams and make some money as soon as is realistically possible really.

"....Gained an excellent understanding". I dare anyone who is following the course and utilising the support and extra resources available to say they have not been able to do this. Maybe my standards are too high, or my expectations of others equally so? I'm not qualified to say.

"....Managed to increase your TMA results..." I found my last section hard....very hard. I don't think I'm a natural at understanding server administration. Somehow, I managed to get 3/5 results at 100%. Yes, I'm more than pleased with that, so I suppose I could "qualify" for that particular point.

But here is my problem. Maybe it is that I don't value myself enough, or something built into my conscience that won't allow me to say "I am the best". Therefore, I cannot sit here and say "I should win the student of the month". I cannot allow myself to do that.

What I can say is this: I undertook this course to achieve a goal. My goal is one that will benefit both myself, and my family, should I make the grade. That, and that alone is my driving force. It is my responsibility to improve our collective way of life, because I undertook the mission laid out before me. I cannot, and will not say that I deserve more or less than any other student on any course in this programme. Other people also suffer adversities or pressures, or do better than they expected to do. That, my friends, is life. None of us have the right to declare they are better than anyone else, in any way, shape or form. Nor has anyone the right to demote themselves or others into a place deemed to be of less importance or standing.

So, dear readers, I leave this message in your hands. I would like for you to decide whether or not to submit this as an entry for student of the month. If it is submitted and I win, thank you. If not, then I have achieved here what I intended to do, from a personal point of view, and that is to get something off my chest. I in no way think this competition is wrong, or to be frowned upon. That is not my intention. However, I felt the need to express something which has given me much food for though.

In short, I do not sit here with any expectations, other than those I can commit to achieving myself. If others think highly enough of me to present me with an accolade of any sort, I thank them. Heartily. But I will not shine a spotlight upon myself without either the support of others, or rather, the presence of others standing in the light beside me. They deserve to be there as much as I might ever do.

Thank you for listening.

I have been studying the A+, and N+ coursework simultaneously for two and a half years now, I sat the first section exam for A+ in July 2006 and passed. I sat the second section A+ exam in September 2006 and failed (by only 31 points). My wife started a major 4 month dispute with her employer, which has just ended to our advantage, I then had surgery in December, Then there was Christmas, our house finally sold in January, and we are trying to organise our emigration to Cyprus for February! So needless to say I have been cancelling and rescheduling my A+ resit for quite a while now, as we are due to move out of our home on Feb 7th, I had to take my re-sit in late January with virtually no studying as my books were all packed away! Guess what?.....I passed, WooHoo! Scored 567, which is an improvement in my score of 98 points, I am well pleased, being A+ certified will get me work easier in Cyprus, and I'll continue my N+ coursework during the summer months.
2007 is becoming a great year already.

I feel I have 2 main achievements:
General achievements
2006/2007 achievements

I am helped 2 friends wireless network their laptops also.

2006/2007 achievements:-

I sadly lost my grandmother also on the 9th Oct 2006. This is a hard time now grieving for two grandparentsI am also now greiving the loss of our family pet of 17years, which we sadly lost on Jan 2007. I took two weeks in Oct 06 & Jan 07 out of any studying for personal time out. I needed it. It's now few months/weeks on; I can look back at what I have done. My assignment marks, course notes, study times, house (how tidy and clean it still is!), my routine and my family (they haven't suffered!) and ME. I personal have achieved many things than just TMA results. With starting 2007 with a TMA N+ mark of 100%.
Below is a daily flexible routine that helps me keep sane.

My daily routine:
Morning: 8:30am -12pm
School run times two children
Library visited with books (2hrs studying)
12:15pm -3pm
Creative time/educational time, Park with 4 yr old.
3-4Pm School run/ homework, evening meal prepare.
4-5pm chores and talk time with family
6-8pm Children time and bed times
8:30 – 12am quiet study time for me. (Approx. 2-3hrs)

I am achieving about 2-4 hours a day studying with flexibility around a noisy and busy family. From Sept I achieved with the wonderful help of my family and husband 20 hours of study, Oct 24 hours and 23 hours for Nov. I believe this achieved through the commitment and hard work from me and the wonderful support I have from my husband and children. My A+ and more recently N+ (Tma 8 – 100 %) marks are proof of this. This makes me so proud of myself.
These are my achievements, to someone that maybe small ones, but to me that are big ones (personal and educational). Studying around 7 children and having to work hard and take in and understand the course fully, has been stressful. You can achieve anything, if you put your mind to it. I feel I have and the odds I feel were against or should I say the “noise” of 7 children!

This occupies six full days a week plus bookwork time at home, we do this whilst coping with a severly mentally disabled son who is 12 years old and a lot of hard work, subsequently most of my study is done between the hours of 10pm and 1am, I am partucularly proud of myself this last month as it is our busiest time of the year in the shop, I have stepped up my study time to make quicker progress and I have managed to achieve two 100% marks for assignments. Therefore, after coming into this from a completely non-computer literate background I am giving myself a bit of a pat on the back. And the great thing is, dispite the time of night that I start studying, I cannot wait to get on with the next bit....one word of warning though, never buy a holiday off me first thing in the morning!!

I am still recovering from a serious illness, but have now managed to get into a routine studying and am really enjoying it. My second folder arrived at the end of the week and it looks as though I will be broadening my horizons. I have passed all my TMAs so far scoring between 90 and 100% each time. After my illness I thought I'd be scraping through on them, so I am so pleased. My sons' school has already asked me to go into the school to help some of the students with things I have learned re: websites/web design. I have also been asked if I would volunteer at a centre that teaches adults and children how to use computers and the internet. I wouldn't have been able to do anything like that without this course. Thank you so much. I now get up each day looking forward to learning more with your help.

I feel that I should be considered for Student of the Month as with the exception of this month I feel that since I started the course I have achieved a fairly high and consistent percentage of high marks. Couple this with the fact that I lost 5/6 months study time through illness and being in and out of hospital and the fact I am asthmatic I think I have acheived so much in this space of time.

The reason I am putting myself up for entry is the fact that I have studied exceptionally hard this month, completing two TMA'S trying to catch up from the couple of weeks break at christmas which was lovely and well needed after doing a 60 hr week for the last 6 months constantly working and trying to keep my studying up aswell. However just as important though is I have finally given up smoking after a long time of trying to quit and my studying is keeping me well and truly focused on the future and what is important. I am a lot more determined now than I was and able to take my mind off the temptation of smoking just by picking up my folder so I must say a big thank you to scheidegger aswell for helping me breathe easy again lol.

Thankyou for taking the time to consider my entry this month.

Yours Sincerely

Colin Black

I`m a family man with a 6 months old baby, a permanant job in the armed forces and when I started this course, I knew absolutley nothing about IT except open up my e-mails. Considering my odds against the depthness of the course I really feel I have managed to excel well and within two months I have managed to finish 3 assignments with above average scores considering I am new to IT. What amazes me most is I have managed to do all that and learn quite a lot within a short period of time while fighting wars here in Afganistan. To say the least I think I have managed to even surprise myself.

I have just recently finished the first part of my course - A+ certification during the month of January. I scored four of my better results to date - 87%, 93% and two 100% results. I am very happy with these results as I work full time in a solicitors office which I can tell you does not have the most relaxing atmosphere but with perserverance I have continued to study hard whilst travelling to and from work on the bus, within the few hours I have to myself during the week and at the weekend after I finish my part time shift at the local hospital. I am now looking forward to sitting my exam and I hope that the hard work and effort that I have put into my studies over the last few months pays of and I can then carve a career for myself in the IT industry.

I have had previous experience in IT as I have studied the basic at a Sixth form college, The A+ course has enabled me to look at the componenets and technology in depth to gain and intensive knowledge. I can now resolve problems that can be basic and that are quite difficult to resolve if I didn't have the experince. I submitt the assignments, which I find very calming, because I am not working under pressure. Hopefully before the end of June 2007 I will like to complete this and move on to the N+ part of the course.

I feel that I have made many achievements throughout this course. I am a full time mum of 2 year old twin girls with one on the way. Looking after my children is obviously my first priority however, I still manage to study a few hours a night if not every other night. Having children has made me even more determined to do my best throughout the course as it will enable me to better their lives by being able to earn a good wage. Out of 16 tests I have passed 6 tests with 100% and I feel proud of this accomplishment. None of this would be possible without the help and support of my tutors or the love and support of my family. I don't expect to win this however I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has made it possible for someone in my position to further their education and to gain better prospects for a career.

I am 31 years old, father of three children and husband of a loving wife. I am full time employed, I do at least eight hours a day five days a week including early mornings and late nights - really demanding. My children are happy and noisy (and my wife). It is not easy to keep up with the study time-table I have created myself because I literally do not have time to study during the day. Every day when the kids are in bed, everything has calmed down I just want to sit down, watch TV or chill out...I don't. I take my study material and start the second half of my day. My mother tongue is Hungarian so I have to pay extra attention to every word that I read to be able learn everything properly. Usually I stay up late night or wake up early when my family is sleeping. I am very serious about being as successful as possible in my new career. Since I have started the course I gave up smoking, changed to a healthier lifestyle including exercises, diet, etc.. My first TMA results were 95-100%. I think these are great achievments over a short period of time and I believe it will remain the same in the future just to show how thankful I am for the chance I was given by Skillstrain.

I think pesonally I have achieved so much in this course, I'm 30 years old and thought I was past learning anything new. I have done really well with tutor marked assignments, the lowest percentage I have received is 80%, I'm no sure if that is great to anyone else, but it is to me!! I used to spend a fortune on pc repairs until I started the mcse, now I can fix things myself, even though I dont know everything yet, I just take my time and use what I have learnt so far. I'm also very busy at the moment what with having a full time job, and organising my wedding!! I'm really happy, and will continue to work very hard to continue to get good pass rates!! Thank you.

I have completed chapters 1 and 2 now - with what I think are very good pass marks, having started the course with extremely limited knowledge in IT. I have found the course interesting but challenging, though I know with determination and perserverance I will do it!! It hasn't been easy with a family and young child, as well as starting a new job - but when I think about what I have learnt and now understand, in such a short time - it motivates and encourages me!! My next achievement (as you have suggested on this site), will be to create and follow a realistic study schedule - which I know will ensure I use my time more efficiently and productively! This course is a new opportunity for me and with the support available to me - can be a reality!! Thank you!!

During January I completed the first part of my CCNA studies, having last year passed all my exams for A+ and N+ with flying colors (scoring 870 for A+ Core Hardware exam 220-301, 829 for A+ Operating Systems exam 220-302, and 734 for Network+ exam N10-003) thanks to the structured training I have received from SkillsTrain. On commencing my studies I was initially somewhat intimidated by the apparent complexity of the CCNA syllabus, having not had a great deal of exposure to computer hardware and networking in the past. Now that I have got CCNA underway during this part month and am getting to grips with it I know I have really learned a lot during my studies with SkillsTrain, and feel a sense of achievement to have reached this challenging level of study whilst still working in a full-time job.

Having just completed the revision supplement TMA's today I am looking forward to starting work on the next part of the CCNA course, which will include Live Labs training.

I consider myself lucky doing an A+/N+ course with Skillstrain. This is because it is convinient and very well organised or should I say well structured?
I have a teenage girl and a ten year old boy who all depend on my assistance with their work. It has not been easy having to be there for them, having to go to work to sustain other needs, having to support my husband who is on fulltime studies at the university and HAVING TO STUDY MYSELF.

I must admit that being in this course has positively challenged me towards being more organised.I have learnt more of how to set my goals and targets.
I recently started N+ and all is going very well.

My main achievements this month has to be my tutor marked assessments!!I have gained higher marks almost everytime!!!I am very happy with myself for doing so.

Another main achievement I have made this month thanks to the team members of this college, is I have been able to do private work involving my I.T skills that I have obtained due to the team members support, and the skills in which I have learnt through my course. The private work I have done is for people I know and people who have passed me on as a good name. This I am very happy about to, as it gives me experience and confidence in working in an I.T environment!!

Hi there,
My story (in brief) goes like this: I have a medical condition called epilepsy, which from the years 2001 to 2004 was totally out of control, for 4 years I had no quality of life – and I spent more time in hospital than I did at home. My memory was in effect "wiped clean" of all the computing skills and qualifications that I had worked so hard for in the years previous to 2001.

However, when my condition was finally controlled by new medication it was like being set free in many ways, and I was determined to regain my lost education. After lots of research (and worry from my family that it might be too much) I decided to go for the MCSA course. Doing this course has helped me to achieve my goals. My memory works best "by association" and learning in this way has brought back an abundance of memories and "repaired" them regarding my IT skills.

A couple of weeks ago I finally completed and uploaded the last page of my own support website that I created especially for other people with epilepsy, who May be going through what I went through, it's my way of "giving something back."

As for recent configuration work, my failing hard drive "died" on me in early January, so I bought a new one, installed it and for the first time felt confident enough to perform and carry out a successful clean install of Windows XP Pro by myself – and it worked!
During the past month I have gained scores of 100% and 98% for 2 different assessments and I can't put into words how much I feel that I have achieved with the challenges I set myself in this way.

On December 22nd 2006 I sat and passed with a result of 100% my comptia network+, which I was over the moon about. This was my first step into the world of networking and after a well deserved festive season break I began work on my ccna mid January. I have just received my TMA1 result-100%-again I am over the moon. My TMA2 has been submitted today and I am confident I will maintain a high % result with this and all of my ccna work. I had wanted to begin work on the ccna earlier in January. However, due to my network+ results and enthusiasm my employers (siemens) have given me the opportunity to "shadow" their network engineers involved in the design and implementation of the network for the new headquarters of BBC SCOTLAND. This is a great opportunity which I have embraced. However it has had a negative effect on my study timetable. Perserverance has helped me achieve a great TMA1 result which I am very proud of. Apparently my hard work and enthusiasm are paying off already as my employers have also agreed to reimburse 50% of my course fees upon completion of the ccna. This is a huge incentive and coupled with the bbc network exposure is making my learning experience fantastic. Albeit more difficult to keep up my self imposed study schedule. I have even managed to setup a small home ,wireless network for my brother and sister-in-law(only two pc's, but we all have to begin somewhere!). The ccna while being difficult has envoked more enthusiasm from me than anything has done for many years. Henec my 9-6 job and "extra" activities with the siemens network engineers has not and will not slow down my learning curve. I would like to thank you all for your help throughout.
