I started doing my course about November last year time ( 2004 ). Since then I applied for a job working in technical support for a software company near me. I went to the interview with examples of the course that I am doing.

A few days later they called me back saying they would like me to go in to dicuss salary!

It turns out that they were very impressed by the cuorse and the fact that I am puting myself though it. It was one of the factors that made them offer me the job! Also since i'm doing the A+, N+ and MCSA, they will increase my wages after each one is completed as an incentive to study hard!

I have now been working there for just over a month and find the studying a great help to the hands on job! Definatley reccommended!!

Success Story:

To start with, I had 2 spine operations in 1997 which made me loose my job as a traffic manager in a lighting company, this was the job that you have always wanted. so when I excepted this I found that there was not a lot I could do, so I went down hill in health and in mind, and it is very hard to get out of this state. In 1999 we brought a computer with the money we had saved for a rainy day and found that I enjoyed the challenge of the PC, I then went to a car boot sale and brought an old box that didn't work for £2 and took it home and after a load of reading on the internet I fixed it and boy did it feel great. I then looked into getting a career in computers, which came up with a list of companys that train from home, Scheidegger being one of those, I decided to take on the A+ and N+, this has helped me get the confidence back that I lost in 97, which has made the future for me and my family a lot brighter than it would have been if I just crawled up in the corner. Thank you Scheidegger, all the best cc

Success Story:

I was teaching IT in a learndirect centre but really wanted to improve my technical skills so that I could seek alternative employment in the PC Maintenance field. I was already skilled in electronics so this wasn't going to be too big a hurdle for me.

I found Scheidegger on the Net and they offered 2 combined courses: the A+ and N+ which were ideal for me to equip myself with the knowledge of today's PC environment. I completed the A+ last year and also passed the exams at an accredited centre. I am currently studying the N+.

I have since gained new employment working for DELL and having the A+ really made me confident when I applied.

The full course contents were all there in all the study folders, it's just a matter of going at your own pace and you can't really fail at the end.

The Tutors
I'm writing to express my thanks for getting me through my course. I knew I would need to get a recognised qualification if I was going to make any real progress with my career but as you know, tried to do it on my own and at evening classes but it was hopeless. The turning point for me was signing up for the CIW course. I can't tell you what a difference it made, the learning materials were great with all the interactive CD's and online activities too but the biggest thing for me was the tutor support. Without that the course would have been a real struggle for me. Now though I have my certification and a new job. At last I feel I am able to make some real progress and I know I have you, the tutors, to thank. So, thank you!

At 16years I started working using a comtometer and progressed to using a computer, if you can remember they were different from todays computers. The two computers was two feet off the floor with very large cables, everythink was worked out into tens and took up the whole area of a very large office. I decided to learn the computer when my children had grown up and the only job avarible was cleaning. I have pass all my exams and decided on web design because when I purchase a new computer I received a digital camera, learnt photoshop and this is the next stage of development. My husband passed away seven years ago and the computer was my salvation, I really enjoy these courses. If all goes well I will go on and be professional.

CATCH THE DREAM

A Dreamer

I was a big dreamer. My dream was to be a great webdesigner. But as I started the course, the first part was a really informative flooded, yet a boring part. I didn't know what I was getting into. I thought I was learning for something very exciting.

The Progress

As time went by, I found that what I've learned so far could open my eyes much more about the real world of web design indeed. Then I realised, there are so much to learn about a web design. There are elements called infrastucture which you have to master yourself on the internet business.

You're Not Alone

There was a time that I got really frustated. I spent nearly two months working on my "JavaScript" homework. I then gave up. I submitted my homework with a note to the tutor that I had tried my best but to no success. A week later, surprisingly I got a reply from the tutor with all the answers and guidances. I gladly realised that I am not alone in this course. I may seem to be doing the course physically alone, but in fact I've got a whole team out there who can support me at anytime I need. I then keep in touch with them eversince regularlly, even on Saturday or Sunday! The tutors are very helpful.

Just Do It!

Have you heard of the commercial tag line from "NIKE"? JUST DO IT!

Keep going chapter by chapter consistently. I make every single day become a meaningful day, even only for 15 - 30 minutes. I am moving on.

Where Am I?

I haven't yet finished my study, but I am at the stage of a 7 year old boy who can read a simple book for 15 pages, and add, multiply, substract numbers up to 20. I start to get very excited. I know there's still much more to catch up, but I'm getting closer to a full understanding of what Professional Web Design is. It'll be no longer a dream, I'll try to catch the dream. So, "Just Do It!"

Success Story:

Dear friends,

I am a person having a motto "Knowledge Is Supreme".

Even though my story is very much of my personal problems, but I want you to understand the circumstance through which I am doing my course and the support that Scheidegger had provided me. I joined with Scheidegger last year for CIW Website Manager's studies and just after that, I was in great trouble. My wife was not well. We were new to this country(UK). I had to stop my work and take care of my wife. She was also not able to go to her work, financial problems and tension started to grab me. I wrote some letters to Scheidegger about discontinuing my course for which the reply was very supportive and gave me moral support to continue with my course. Now my wife is under medication and I am not able to go to work more than 20 hours a week as I need to take care of my her.

I take the opportunity of studying when my wife is keeping well, which happens for a very short period. I never miss the chance and send my TMA's and try to get through with good percentage. Whatever is the circumstance, I am studing because I see light of hope somewhere. A hope of overcoming every problems and my hard work will make me stand on top of everything. I ask every student's who have paid and not continuing their studies, please take the opportunity and finish your course. Knowledge can pay you at any time in your life and for those anyone who want's to join with Scheidegger, that you will be the part of a great family and Universe of Knowledge. I am 35 years old and am still studying. Age does not matter but our will power matters. Study, take the opportunity as I did and do something in your life as I am going to do after finishing this course. Pray for my wife.

Wishing Good luck to everyone

Success Story:

I'm a fifty three year old mother and grandmother who hasn't had any formal education for more years than I can remember. I was always too busy bringing up children, suporting husband in a military career, then working for the extra money that university education for children requires. I lost my job and contracted cancer all in the same week last October, after a period of adjustment I was faced with a long time off work, and the probability that no one would employ me again. So I decided to take a home course. I chose the Web Design course because I have a home computer and this would.....if I passed the course.......enable me to work from home. I'm not far into the course but marks amazed me and have encouraged me to go on with it. The help from the tutors (boy do they have patience with me) is exceptional, and I know I can continue and both enjoy the course work and pass the exams so come the end of the year I shall have my own web design company and work from home when I want to. No more wage slave. If I can do this so can anyone else, you just need the right motivation, help, and the will to set aside a certain number of hours in a day to study, take the phone off the hook and buckle down to it. You ca do it to!

Hi, My name is SW,40 years of age and for me the true success of this course was to start it in the first place.having been a Technophobe for a long time and not knowing the first thing about computers,I summoned up the courage to send my first E-mail(And for those of you in the same boat you know how scary that can be). I have just completed TMA03 with an 80% pass mark and although i am just at the start of this course I cannot explain the sheer euphoria at getting this far so quickly and learning so much(Even my typing has improved to 50 wpm) I have recommended this course to people that I know and would encourage anyone who is on this course to KEEP ON GOING and dont give up.Apart from taking my driving test 20 years ago,I believe this course to be the best financial investment I have made.... ever. The tutor team are the best, they have encouraged not only myself but others as well to carry on and realise our dreams of a better lifestyle, success, and financial stability in this, the largest industry on the planet(and growing daily)So,stop grappling with the gremlins and go on as you mean to.Thanks for looking. I am 62 years old and I left scjool with no qualifications at all. I Passed my RGN when I was 21. I left to have my children then I decided to go bsck to work again. I began writing peotry and stories and it was the tutor of one of these creative writing courses encouraged me to do my A level English Literature. I was six marks off an A level pass. Yes I was dissappointed but I had left school with no qualifications at all. I loved all things IT and decided to do the TROCN course, a basic IT skills course. I passed that with credits. I did a course on land issues in the voluntary sector. This wasn't an academis course but it proved that I could study and more importantly understand whar was being said to me. I loved studying, I had such a hunger for it was unbelivable. Last year I did an IT Essentials part one course and passed with flying colours. I decided to do this CIW Web Design course because that is what I am interested in. I am thinking of doing more courses. ! I was always afraid of failing exams but really the failure is not to even try to learn new things nomatter how old you are. My Grandchildren think I'm "mint" because I can help them fathom out IT problems and because I am a whizz kid at Lara Croft I can guide them through a level with out very little effort but with a great deaL OF enjoyment. So don't give yourself a hard time. No matter how old you are there is always som ething new to learn. Take heart from me and go out there find a course and learn a new skill. You are only as old as you feel. Regards to all you would be students

I don't know if this is a testimonial; or a success story.

I've been building PC's and doing small local repairs for a few years now but fancied a pop at the big money. The only way to do that is to train and get certified. Being unemployed for a while I had the time but haven't studied for a good few years. Anyhow to cut a long story short I slid into study mode quite easily and thoroughly enjoy it. Every set of results is a buzz for me. Well now to the success part. Word gets around about what people do in small villages and its common knowledge I train with Scheidegger. In my part of the world (Scotland) there is a shortage of PC techs, and even though I have not yet certified and am only nearing the end of my A+ section of my CISCO course. I've been offered a well paid job as a PC Technician. Not bad for someone who hasn't qualified yet. Yes I am capable and have been for years but through Scheidegger the proof of ability is there. I am looking forward to completing the course now with optimism.

There are jobs to be had. Study hard, enjoy every minute of it, then reap the rewards.

I embarked on my course (MCSA) in Nov 2005 at the age of 47. As a former Fish and Chip shop proprietor (My wife had become seriously ill and we had to sell the business) I was obviously worried about the future after all at my age you dont expect to have to go back to school . I have submited 12 assignments now and achieved some very good results, and with this in mind set about putting my aquired knowledge to the test. I approached a local IT company and Volunteered my services free of charge the company took full advantage of this as you would expect (something for nothing eh!) inside three days I had built three new systems and installed operating systems and other software on them, I also repaired several workstations, the machines are now in the hands of their owners and running fine. "feels good"

I've been bringing up children for the past 19 years. My youngest is now 5 and has just started school. I trained as a hairdresser, but once I purchased my first PC I was hooked!

I find this course a huge challenge, mainly because my schedule as a housewife and mother is very hectic, and I don't have a lot of spare time, particularly through the school holidays.

I was concerned at first about the amount of study I would have to put in, and I've had to learn how to learn all over again, but this course is probably the best money I will ever spend!

I may take a little longer to complete the course than someone with different circumstances, but the beauty of it is that I can do it in whatever spare time I do have, and the more I study, the more determined I become! Never, ever think you are 'past it' or too old to learn anything new...If I can do it, anyone can!

For many years i have been active on the Internet in the security sector, But did not have the relevant qualification to progress further , this is why i decided to take courser and achieve status in the real world of Network security and administration

i am currently joint administrator of one of the worlds acknowledged security forums , http://www.governmentsecurity.org forum , we have had in the past over 50,000 members reduced to currently approx 15,000 many are well known security professionals including Cisco instructors

i myself have wrote many articles and provided demonstrations of security issues ... including many released exploits to places like security-tracker , secunia etc.. under what use to be my nickname ComSec and now Kenny L ... yet i never had a single qualification in the IT field..yet many know me for what i have achieved all being self taught

i also have released many programs i have coded in Visual basic and Delphi , some have been system tools but most Network programs some examples can be found at one of my websites http://www.codelinx.net ... again i taught myself programming... and yet , if i was to apply to a company for a vacancy , i no for a fact i would stand no chance of obtaining the position due to my lack of qualifications

well now its time to change this and become a Certified professional , am currently studying for my CCNA and will also being following it up with others courses , i find the course work excellent and is a step in the right direction to progress further and gain a recognised certificate to improve my job prospects

i have given many members advice on securing the system and network all for free over the years...its about time i started to get paid it...and what better way than to gain a qualification ...am sure if i can do it..then many of you reading this can also... we all start at the bottom of the ladder... with each completed assignment ... is a step closer to the top

Kenny

I am 27 years old and in full time work. I have been repairing pc's for 6 years as a hobby but never held any qualifications. My girlfriend was pregnant and thought i wouldnt have the time to study for one. After speaking with a representative from Schneidegger who told me that if i wanted the qualification hard enough, i would find the time, so i decided to do it. Twelve months has now passed and I realised that its the best thing i ever did. I am now more confident about this subject and it has even resulted me in taking up visual basic programming, which i thought i'd never do. I've wasted so many years wanting to get into I.T but actually never doing anything about it. I hopefully will have my MCSA in another 12 months and will look to further my career by taking another course.

I have been studying in my spare time for this qualification at a time when I have gained a beautiful new daughter, (Molly) therefore my personal time is rarely easy to find while maintaining a happy family. I have also been more busy at work, year on year. Spending more hours working from home after leaving the office etc. My wife has gone back to work so our little Molly has to be run to and from the nursery so that's another part of the daily schedule that has been accomodated. My two real loves: guitar and snowboarding; have taken a far-away back seat to this training recently as I've turned a corner and really want to drive toward the finish line of the qualification. This means that the next time I get on the slopes I'll probably hurt myself and the next time I'm on stage (by stage I mean standing in front of my 1 year old playing baa baa black sheep) I'll embarrass myself.

On top of all the above reasons, I've gotten a 97% and 100% on my last 2 TMAs. I hope this all qualifies me enough to be put forward.

Cheers to you all for your sterling work with us lowly students - you've been a real help with my questions and concerns. Thanks!

My name is Paul Coates-Peregreen and I live in Kingston-Upon-Hull, which is a city in the county of Yorkshire, in the harsh north of England! There is high unemployment in this area which has subsequently led me to undertake the Website Design Manager course to enable me to have for the first time in my life(I am 27) a career. I live with my girlfriend of eight years and her daughter to whom I am her leading male role model. I alternate unfortunately between unemployment and really bad jobs, such as working in a turkey factory, roadsweeping etc. We cannot afford a computer let alone an internet connection so I have to travel once a week a few miles to my sisters house, where in exchange for babysitting detail I can use their computer and Internet connection. I have had limited experience with computers, yet am progressing very well on my TMA's, gaining marks of 90% or more since starting my course which I enjoy very much. I really cannot wait to complete my course, get the career that I've always wanted and improve the lifestyle of myself and my family. I am a multi-instrumentalist and one of the first things I'm going to do is create a website devoted to the great J.S Bach, who alongside the likes of The Beatles, Devo, Johnny Cash, De La Soul and Sergovia is a great influence on me.

LAST WEEK I HELPED MY BROTHER WITH HIS SLOW COMPUTER. HE WAS THINKING OF TAKING IT TO THE REPAIRS SHOP. BECASE IT WAS NOTICABLY SLOW. I TOLD HIM I CAN TRY AND FIX IT FOR HIM, NATURALLY HE DIDN'T TRUST AND SAID I AM STILL LEARNING ABOUT COMPUTER, AND THAT I MIGHT DAMAGE IT. SO I PROMISED HIM THAT WHAT I WAS GOING TO DO WAS NOT GOING TO MAKE IT ANY WORSE, IF IT DID NOT IMPROVE IT. HE AGREED. WHEN I LOOK AT IT, HE HAD EVERYTHING STORED IN IT. I DID A DISC CLEANUP, DELITED TEMPORAL FILES, COPIED THE DOCUMENTS THAT HE SAID HE DID NOT USE OFTEN AND FINALLY I DEFRAGMENTED THE DISC, WHICH HE ADMITTED THAT HE HAS NEVER DONE SINCE, AND THIS WAS A THREE AND HALF YEARS OLD MACHINE. WHEN THAT WAS FINISHED HE WAS REALY PLEASED. AND I WAS VERY PLEASED MYSELF.

Ten months later I was made redundant - then another job, then redundant again. I am now a Security Officer working 72 hours a week on a shift pattern,I have to find the time to study when ever I can. I am very pleased that I have achieved an average of 95.5% on my 6 TMA's, my aim is to keep going and not give up. My age now? 64 on the 30.12.2006 so my advice to others is would be " Don't give up it's never to late to learn. I'M LUVVIN IT!

I started this course due to ill health, earlier this year I was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to retire from work early(60).I have never been taught anything about computers, all I know is self learned.I read about the courses on offer with Skillstrain and decided to "give it a shot".With having very little to do with my time I have been able to study quite hard and my progress reports reflect this.My 1st TMA was marked at 80% and from there my results have improved to-96%,100%,90% and 95% respectively. These results have really given my ego a massive boost,I was on the verge of severe depression, but I now have a goal in life.I am determined to complete the course, not for financial gain, but to be able to say I DID IT.Believe me,it's not going to be easy,I appreciate that, but if I can keep achieving these sort of results,my time will not have been in vain.Thank you everybody at Skillstrain for guiding me in the right direction. In return I WILL SUCCEED.

It's funny, I never thought that I would be writing this, but here goes. I started the A+ course in 2004 and all though I Knew how to build a computer and load drivers, operating systems etc, I always felt that my over all knowledge was limited. The A+ course certainly filled in the missing parts.

I am 42 years old, work, have a wife and three children (one Who was born with a few disabilities) I constantly worried if I would get time to study and get my TMA's completed so that the course would be finished within the specified time.

Unfortunately the time spec given (14 months at the time) was easily enough to finish and I realised that I had created more pressure on myself reducing the enjoyment of the course material. Please don't make that mistake if anyone reads this as I realised later when I moved on to the N+ course that the more relaxed you are the easier it is to learn and recall facts.

Don't get me wrong each course is tough and the amount of material to remember is huge, but I have the material there, for revision when I need it (and oh how I do!!) along with the extra notes I made on areas where I felt I struggled.

I have always been one of those people who tries to understand things and work out solutions for myself, but I always knew that anything I couldn't get my head round would be simplified by consulting one of the tutors who was always there to help with a problem.

There where times that with working, family commitments aswell as some personel losses that I did indeed feel like giving up and throwing in the towel.

But then I realised I had gotten this far and the light was slowly appearing at the end of the tunnel. I had completed the A+ and N+ and at the time of writing I am half way through the MCSA course. I am enjoying this course the most as it has been a real eye opener to the inner workings of Windows 2000.

How do I feel in general and am I ready for the exams? In all honesty maybe, with some serious revision anything is possible.

Do I want to take the exams? A good question as my whole purpose for studying was to give me more knowledge in areas of computing where I always had a huge amount of questions but no answers.

There have been times that I have picked up an MCSA or Network guide in a book shop, the type where you study and then questions are asked at the end of each chapter, and the greatest single feeling and justification for studying is the fact that I can easily answer most of the questions asked in the book without actually reading the chapter.....cool!! (and all this with someone who has the worst memory of all time, lol)

I feel that like everythig in life there are ups and downs and this will always be the way. The course for me has been like this, but I have endured and will continue to the end and will know, regardless of taking exam's or finding a job within this field, I have bettered myself with knowledge and skills that have given me respect from my friends and family.

I have been studying now for 10 months, and feel I am struggling quite a lot to find the time to work through the units of the course, let alone practice writing code and all that extra stuff.

However, I think I am still doing quite well considering I am working part time, looking after my 3 children (the youngest of whom is normally pushing the keyboard shelf in while I am trying to study, to try and get my attention) and demanding husband, and trying to keep the house tidy and food on the table. I think this ability to multitask and work despite big distractions, and to type JavaScript while telling my daughter how to work the DVD player, will be valuable at some point!

And despite all this, I am getting more than 90% on most of my assignments, which surprises me every time, but is very gratifying and helps me to carry on.

Since starting my course at the beggining of the year, I have put togeter a Desktop computer from scratch for my mother who is 68 years old and has never used a computer before, I also set it up for her and I go round atleast once a week as she lives quite far from me, and I have been showing her how to use the internet, email and other programs like word and phot suits.

She has picked it up quite well as always get emails from her asking what this means and I got an email from such and such what do I need to do with it. I also receive alot of jokes from her so she is really enjoying it, she now keeps intouch with our relatives in Malta via MSN.

I am now starting with my uncle Joe who has just retired last month and has baught a computer, and is very empressed with my Mums abilaty so he wants me so help him.

I have really enjoyed helpping my mother and my Uncle and from doing this I know that if I can I would like to go down that road of showing older inexperianced person how to use a computer and show them not to be affraid of them and show them how it can change there lives for the better.

I read my first lesson and discover there was something I was not doing right "taking notes", I dashed to the shops bought a solid note and treat my reading suction like in a proper class with mobile switched off and I have just completed lesson with the feeling that I was right to start now because there is no condition or time that will be perfect. I believe I will complete this course and start my own business in IT. At the moment I work in Social Housing but with a vision and faith I know I will achieve my dream. I work in an MOD environment and have recently been to Afghanistan on work with the military. Your explanation of IP addressing and the concerns of these addresses running out proved invaluable. The explanantion of the future introduction of ipV6 helped to explain to some of my customers the need for monitoring of addressing on their networks. I was also able to help with an addressing problem on a particular network and help to subsequently successfully bring up that network with the minimum of downtime to that MOD user. The network is successfully running with a substantial number of users of the network.

Although I have only been on the A+ course since July of this year, I find my confidence has risen to a level I never thought possible. Although I have to set my course work around looking after my disabled 14 year old son, I find that this course fits in well around my other daily routine. The course has given me the confidence to tackle issues I otherwise would back away from. some of the subjects covered have and do give me some problems, but I find satisfaction in overcoming these issues. the one thing that inspired me to take up this course was the fact my disabled son May never find a job that he will be able to settle into, this is due to multiple dissability, such as ADHD, poor eyesight, lack of fine motor skills, too name but a few, but with the course and following certification , I will be able to provide a stable and secure future for him , as well as the rest of the family. he has also taken a keen interest in what I am doing and asks about my results for TMA's on a regular basis , this spurs me to achieve the results I have attained so far, having started the A+ course I never realised just how much information a computer technician must know and understand, that it's not just a case of knowing what to do , but being able to describe the process to a client and being able to describe a remedy for the problem. due to the A+ I can diagnose a problem and it's common causes, thereby being able to rectify the problem , or at least able to backtrack and find a solution to the problem. The way in which the course is structured , means that allthough unemployed at the moment, I am able to still activly seek permenent work, hopefully within the IT industry

I have also managed to create a startup disk for win xp without using the xp cd and booted the computer using it. Iam looking into upgrading my motherboard and cpu in the near future.
